Padres minor league affiliates went 1-4 on Friday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 11-9 vs Tacoma) (70-59 on the season)

Tim Locastro – 1-for-4, Home Run, Four RBI

Ripken Reyes – 2-for-4, RBI Double

Logan Gillaspie – 4.2 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K (85 pitches – 52 strikes)

Logan Gillaspie started for the Chihuahuas, pitching 4.2 innings of four-run baseball. Gillaspie pitched four innings of one-run baseball before struggling in the fifth. Tacoma batters sat on Gillaspie’s cutter, as both run-scoring hits against him came on the cutter. Jake Higginbotham was charged with three runs in one inning of work, and Raul Brito allowed one run in 2.1 innings of relief. Manuel Castro allowed three runs in one inning of work.

At the plate, Tim Locastro gave the Chihuahuas a 3-1 lead in the second inning with a three-run homer. El Paso scuffled in the middle innings, as the team failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings. The Chihuahuas pushed across six in the ninth inning, finishing just shy of tying the game. Ripken Reyes and Tyler Wade hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Yonathan Perlaza reached on a fielder’s choice error to score Wade. Nate Mondou singled to score the fourth run of the inning, and Trenton Brooks drew a bases-loaded walk to score another run. Tim Locastro hit into a forceout against former Padre Jesse Hahn to score the Chihuahuas’ ninth run of the game. With two runners on and two down, Clay Dungan lined out to end the game.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 6-3 vs Frisco) (60-64 on the season)

Moises Gomez – 1-for-3, RBI Double

Devin Ortiz – 2-for-4, RBI Single

Enmanuel Pinales – 5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K (89 pitches – 57 strikes)

San Antonio’s bullpen surrendered a late 3-2 lead to drop a game in which they got an excellent outing from their starter. Enmanuel Pinales struck out six batters in 5.2 innings of work, allowing only two hits and three walks. Pinales has now pitched quality baseball in three of his last five starts, and over his last two, he has struck out ten batters in 11.2 innings. Ryan Och recorded the final out of the sixth inning. He also happened to pitch to a fellow former Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle in Christopher Sargent. Garrett Hawkins recorded two outs in the seventh, and Andrew Moore got two outs, but left the game with one out and the bases loaded in the eighth. Ethan Routzahn allowed all three runners to score on a walk, sac fly, and two-run triple.

Moises Gomez opened the scoring in the second inning, driving in Marcos Castanon. They would load the bases in the third inning, and a wild pitch scored Romeo Sanabria. Devin Ortiz singled to score Castanon, and after three, the Missions led 3-2. Gomez and Castanon each reached base twice in the game, and leadoff man Braedon Karpathios went 0-for-3 with a walk. The aforementioned Ortiz went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in what was a sluggish showing at the plate for San Antonio.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 4-2 vs Dayton) (55-68 on the season)

Jack Costello – 1-for-3, Home Run

Jonathan Vastine – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Maikel Miralles – 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 5 K (82 pitches – 60 strikes)

A quality start is one way to ingratiate yourself to a new team, and Maikel Miralles did that on Friday in Fort Wayne. The opening day starter for the Lake Elsinore Storm made his High-A debut on Friday, striking out five batters in six innings of work. Miralles allowed three runs on eight hits, but walked only one. Walks had been an issue for the Venezuela-born right-hander in August, but he showed sharp command in his debut. Bodi Rascon threw an inning of one-run baseball in relief, and Eiker Huizi shook off his recent struggles by striking out four batters in two innings of scoreless relief.

Jack Costello continued to find his stroke at the plate, as the TinCaps’ first baseman launched his ninth home run of the season. Rosman Verdugo finished with a single and walk in the game, scoring a run. Verdugo scored on an RBI single from Jonathan Vastine. The former Vanderbilt shortstop Vastine hit an RBI single in the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs, but Kai Roberts was thrown out at home trying to score. Brendan Durfee went 1-for-4 with a single, and the rehabbing Eguy Rosario struck out three times in a hitless effort.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-5 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (55-69 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 3-for-4, Two RBI

George Bilecki – 1-for-3, RBI Double

Winyer Chourio – 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K (69 pitches – 40 strikes)

In a back-and-forth affair, Lake Elsinore pulled ahead in the seventh inning, holding on to win 6-5 over the Quakes. WInyer Chourio started for the Storm, and in his first start at Single-A, he held the Quakes to one run on two hits. Chourio struck out six for the third time this season (and the first time at Lake Elsinore). Landry Jurecka allowed three runs in one inning of relief, striking out one batter. Kleiber Olmedo was strong in long relief, pitching three innings and allowing one run. Olmedo and his funky delivery struck out five batters in his outing, his fourth time fanning five in a game. Adam Conrad allowed a two-out walk in the ninth inning, but struck out two in a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.

Alex McCoy continued making his case for California League Player of the Month honors, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI singles. Kavares Tears had a triple in three at-bats, scoring a run. George Bilecki had an RBI double out of the nine spot, and Carlos Rodriguez finished with an RBI as part of his own 1-for-4 showing. Dylan Grego had two singles in the win and is now 8-for-17 in the series.

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 3-1 vs DSL Athletics) (1-1 in DSL Cup Finals, 5-1 in Postseason)

Isaac Ponce – 2-for-4, RBI Single

Jose Verdugo – 1-for-3, Single, Walk

Raymel Belliard – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K

The DSL Padres Gold are headed for a winner-take-all Game 3 of the DSL Cup Finals after a 3-1 loss. Isaac Ponce’s eighth-inning RBI single was not enough for the Padres, as their lineup punched out 11 times against Athletics pitching. Jose Verdugo had a 1-for-3 day with a walk and run scored, and Eddson Martinez had a double for their lone extra-base hit. Raymel Belliard pitched well in a losing effort, as he allowed one run in five innings. While he struck out only one, he got outs on balls in play efficiently. Marco Eluscat came on in relief, allowing two runs in three innings. Both runs were unearned due to a fielding error by Eduarlin Tejeda, but unearned runs are still unfortunately runs, which led to the Padres Gold’s loss. The DSL Cup Finals wrap up on Saturday, August 30.
