Tijuana Xolos: Jordan Silva signing addresses key weakness
The Tijuana Xolos recently announced Jordan Silva as their first signing of the offseason ahead of the 2019 Apertura season that will begin on July 19.
The 24-year-old Mexican centre-back began his top-flight career in 2014 with Toluca then went on to join his most recent team Cruz Azul in 2017.
Silva was once regarded as a highly touted up and coming prospect with Toluca due to his height, physicality, and defensive capabilities. The San Luis Potosi native even went on to represent the Mexico national team at youth levels and at the senior stage.
Silva represented Mexico at the 2015 Toulon Games, the 2015 Panamerican games, the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic qualifiers and at the 2016 Toulon Games.
The 24-year-old was called up to the senior Mexican team in 2016 by Juan Carlos Osorio to play in a couple of friendlies against New Zealand and Panama.
The Mexican defender played in 57 total games with Toluca but only played in 10 games with Cruz Azul due to several injury problems. Silva is still young, but he has already been plagued by severe injury scares and that is concerning for any team that takes a chance on him.
However, the 24-year-old is a solid signing for Club Tijuana to add some depth to the backline. The Xoloitzcuintles have some good centre-backs like Diego Braghieri and Julian Velazquez but do not have many options on the bench with the aging Juan Carlos Valenzuela as the only other option.
Silva stands in at 6-foot-3 and can be very useful on set-pieces and a solid choice for Oscar Pareja if any injuries come up.
