Tijuana Xolos finally get first win in eLiga MX
It had been a bumpy start for the Tijuana Xolos in the eLiga MX as the Aztec Canines were winless in their first two games in the virtual league. Alexis Castro had lost his first game against Santos Laguna, while Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez had tied his game against Queretaro youngster Marcel Ruiz.
This past Friday, April 17, Miguel Barbieri was finally able to get that elusive first win for Club Tijuana as he defeated Club America midfielder Santiago Caseres on FIFA 20. The game was exciting as Caseres initially looked like the better player, consistently attacking Barbieri’s net.
However, it was Barbieri, who struck first as he scored in the 38th minute to give the border city team a 1-0 lead. The first half of play ended 1-0 in Tijuana’s favor as it was still a very open-ended encounter between Barbieri and Caseres.
The second half proved to be more exciting than the first as Barbieri scored his second goal of the FIFA game in the 50th minute. Then Caseres brought one back for Club America in the 66th minute to make it 2-1 game.
Barbieri locked up the game in the 70th minute as he scored with Mauro Lainez to make it a 3-1 game. The deficit was too much for Santiago Caseseres as the twelve-minute clash ended with the Tijuana Xolos defeating Club America.
