San Diego State opened home conference play with a three-game set against the New Mexico Lobos.

The Lobos coming into the series, already matched their win total from last year.

New Mexico is a young but talented team, and it showed in the three games this weekend. The Aztecs swept the Lobos, allowing only three runs over the weekend. The pitching staff for the Aztecs was incredibly impressive.

The four pitchers for the Aztecs had some great outings.

Cece Cellura started the first game for the Aztecs. Cellura was impressive in getting out of trouble, going five shutout innings. Dee Dee Hernandez came in to relieve Cellura and went two shutout innings, securing the save. Jade Ignacio came up with the lone run in the game Friday with an RBI single in the fifth inning. This was a great start to a simply amazing weekend for the young backstop out of El Camino High School in San Diego.

Grace Uribe started game two for the Aztecs on Saturday.

Uribe went 2.2 innings and got herself into a good amount of trouble. Uribe gave up two runs and then was relieved by Hernandez. Dee Dee Hernandez took over and did not allow a run to cross the plate, going 4.1 innings of shutout ball. Ignacio had a great game in the box again, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Shannon Cunningham came up with the big three-run home run to put the Aztecs up four in the game.

True freshman Ava Schaffel got the ball for game three and went three innings, giving up just one run.

Cellura came in and again pitched fantastically for the Aztecs. Lately, the right-hander has shown exactly why she was voted the MW Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Ignacio continued her terrific weekend with another multi-hit performance, with a solo home run. Kate Farren was an underrated contributor in the last game of the series. The Southern California native from Murrieta went 2-for-2, driving in three runs and adding a walk.
