This Wednesday, July 2, San Diego FC star Anders Dreyer was named MLS Player of the Month for June.
Dreyer played in three MLS games in June and came away with three goals scored and five assists.
SDFC won all three of these games against Minnesota United, Vancouver Whitecaps and FC Dallas. It is very hard to say which of the three was Dreyer’s best performance, given that he was spectacular in all of these games.

In the 4-2 win against Minnesota, the Danish forward contributed with two goals and an assist. In the massive 5-3 win at Vancouver, Dreyer racked up a hat-trick of assists.

Finally in the intense, hard-fought 3-2 win at Dallas, the 27-year-old forward had a goal and an assist. Dreyer now has nine goals and leads Major League Soccer with 12 assists. The Danish international also leads MLS with 21 total goal contributions, with a significant lead over Sam Surridge, who was 18.
It has been a historic inaugural season from San Diego FC and a very significant first MLS season for Dreyer. There were some doubts when the Danish player was named as a Designated Player for SDFC, but he has proved all the doubters and quickly become one of the best players in the league.
In addition to this accolade, SDFC also signed defender Christopher McVey to a contract extension. The deal is through the 2027 MLS season with a club option through 2028.
McVey was initially expected to be a roster depth addition with Andres Reyes and Paddy McNair as the starting centre-backs. However, Reyes’ injuries allowed McVey to gain some playing time and consolidate himself as a consistent starter.
The Swedish defender has started 20 games this season and has had great chemistry with Paddy McNair, building a solid foundation in the backline. McVey has even scored two goals this season, showcasing his aerial prowess on set pieces.
The 28-year-old player’s towering physical presence is very valuable in MLS coming in at 6-foot-4. McVey has been a great surprise this season and seems like he has the ability to become a leader in this backline.
