San Diego Wave is riding high in NWSL, currently in first place and on a four-game winning streak. The Wave will now visit the Denver Summit for the first professional meeting between these two sides this Saturday, April 25.
The Southern California side has been especially impressively defensively with just three goals allowed this season. The Wave has been able to keep consecutive clean sheets against Boston and Chicago.
Goalkeeper Leah Freeman has been very impressive in her rookie season and has been one of the main talking points this season. The centre-back partnership of Kennedy Wesley and Kristen McNabb has been working wonders and Amelia Van Zanten has been a fruitful addition at right-back.
Another rookie that has been performing has been Lia Godfrey, who now has three goals on the year. Jonas Eidevall has plenty of options in the attack and the offense is only expected to get better with Catarina Macario.
Godfrey is the Wave leading goalscoring, while Dudinha leads the team with five goal contributions. Dudinha leads San Diego with three assists this season and has been a tremendous addition, coming off limited participation in 2025.

The Denver Summit has also allowed just three goals this season, but has really struggled to produce much offense. The expansion team has scored just four goals this season and three of those goals have come from Klara Melissa Kossler.
The German forward striker will be the one to watch and try to lock down on Denver’s frontline. However, the Summit has failed to score in two consecutive games.
Denver has an experienced backline with team captain Janine Sonis leading the way. Goalkeeper Abby Smith leads NWSL with an average of 4.6 saves per game with three clean sheets as well.
This is a tough defense to crack, but the Wave has shown offensive prowess that has enough talent to get a positive result from this match. This will surely not be an easy match, but it is a good opportunity for San Diego to ride the momentum on its winning streak.
