It has been a busy start to the week for the San Diego Wave, who announced the addition of goalkeeper Leah Freeman on Monday.

This morning, the club followed up by signing Brazilian powerhouse Ludmila Silva to bolster their attack.

Freeman arrives in San Diego with a short professional span but an impressive list of accolades.

She was a two-time All-Pac-12 First Team selection and the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year in 2022 while playing for the University of Oregon. In 2023, Freeman transferred to Duke, where she earned All-ACC First Team honors, was named a First Team All-American, and claimed ACC Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2024.

Freeman signed a one-year contract with the Wave through the 2026 season.

On Tuesday morning, the Wave announced the signing of Ludmila Silva to a three-year contract through the 2028 season.

Ludmila arrives in San Diego via a trade from the Chicago Stars in a record-setting deal worth $800,000 in intraleague transfer funds. Including performance-based incentives, the total value could reach approximately $1 million, breaking the Chicago Stars’ club record for a transfer fee.

Ludmila brings vast experience and unquestionable talent to the Wave. She began her professional career in Brazil before making the jump to the international stage with Atlético de Madrid, where she played from 2017 to 2024. During her time with the Spanish club, she recorded 137 appearances and 59 goals before moving to the NWSL with Chicago. On the international level, Ludmila has earned 62 caps for the Brazilian national team, scoring six goals. Ludmila also earned a silver medal with Brazil at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

Both signings come with some uncertainty, as reports this week indicate that Delphine Cascarino may be transferring back to France, more specifically, the London City Lionesses.

If confirmed, Cascarino would become the fourth starter to depart the Wave this offseason, joining Kailen Sheridan, Hanna Lundkvist, and Savannah McCaskill. Also, Quincy McMahon, who only tallied seven appearances for the Wave, leaves San Diego to join Racing Louisville FC in exchange for $25,000 and international roster spots for the next two seasons.
