San Diego Wave FC returns home to Snapdragon Stadium to host the Washington Spirit on Sunday, June 22. The match is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. PDT

San Diego heads into this weekend’s matchup with a 1-2-3 all-time record against Washington, with the last three meetings ending in draws.

The most recent clash came in September 2024, when the Wave battled back from a 30th-minute own goal to level the score at 1-1. Kristen McNabb scored the equalizer in the 68th minute, finishing off a corner from María Sánchez that dropped right in front of goal.

The Wave is riding high after a 3-2 win over the Houston Dash, extending their unbeaten road streak to four games. Kenza Dali, Adriana Leon, and Sánchez all found the back of the net, with the team jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead early in the second half. Leon’s goal marked her fourth of the season, while Sánchez notched her first NWSL header. Houston clawed back two late game goals, but the Wave held on for all three points.

The Spirit is just one point behind the Wave in the NWSL standings before Sunday’s match, and the winner has the potential to rise to second place in the league.

The Spirit are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Portland Thorns. Washington struggled to handle Portland’s high press, which broke down their defense and led to two goals getting past keeper Aubrey Kingsbury.

Sunday’s face-off between the San Diego Wave and the Washington Spirit will be their final NWSL game before the July break and will be the Wave’s first Pup’s at the Pitch event. While the teams have been evenly matched in past meetings, San Diego’s strong recent form and home-field advantage could give them the edge this time around.
