Padres minor league affiliates went 2-3 on Wednesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 7-1 vs Sugar Land) (35-42 on the season)

Nate Mondou – 1-for-4, Triple, Run Scored

Carlos D. Rodriguez – 3-for-4, Three Singles

Sean Boyle – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K (69 pitches – 48 strikes)

Right-hander Sean Boyle slotted into the Chihuahuas rotation instead of JP Sears and pitched a strong start. Boyle threw five innings of one-run baseball, striking out three batters. The right-hander mixed up his arsenal, keeping the Space Cowboys offense guessing and generating weak contact. Boyle now has a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings of work this month. Miguel Cienfuegos took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings. Ethan Routzahn pitched the final 1.1 innings for El Paso, with Sugar Land scoring four runs against him. El Paso’s offense was silenced by Astros No. 6 prospect Ethan Pecko, against whom they scored just one run. Nate Mondou tripled in the fourth inning, scoring later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Marcos Castanon. Castanon has five RBI across his last two games. Romeo Sanabria picked up his first Triple-A hit with a single, finishing 1-for-4 in the loss. Nick Pratto had two singles in the game, starting in left field.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 8-5 vs Arkansas) (32-39 on the season)

Jake Cunningham – 3-for-5, Three Singles, RBI

Ryan Jackson – 2-for-5, Double, Two RBI

Jagger Haynes – 6.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 7 K (95 pitches – 65 strikes)

Missions starter Jagger Haynes pitched into the seventh inning, striking out seven batters. Haynes’ swing-and-miss stuff was there on Wednesday, as he generated 20 whiffs, a total that led all of Double-A baseball. The left-hander did not allow any home runs and has now thrown five or more innings in all four starts he has made in June. Clay Edmondson picked up the final out of the seventh inning, making his Double-A debut on his birthday. Harry Gustin took the loss, allowing a go-ahead two-run home run to Hunter Fitz-Gerald in one-third of an inning and departing with two runners on. Both bequeathed runners would score against Tucker Musgrove, making his Missions debut. Musgrove did not allow a base hit, walking one and striking out one in two-thirds of an inning.

Jake Cunningham hit three singles in his Missions debut, driving in one run. Ryan Jackson hit a double and drove in two runs, finishing with two hits. Jackson has been on a tear as of late, nd has multi-hit performances in four of his last five games. Carson Tucker went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, hitting a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Braedon Karpathios drove in a run on a groundout, reaching base once on a walk. Luis Verdugo hit two singles in five at-bats, and Kai Roberts reached base twice, scoring one run.

I'd like this amount to

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 7-6 vs Lake County) (31-40 on the season)

Luke Cantwell – 2-for-4, Home Run, Double, Three RBI

Kavares Tears – 3-for-4, Home Run, RBI

Winyer Chourio – 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K (89 pitches – 56 strikes)

Winyer Chourio’s TinCaps debut went rather well when all was said and done. The right-hander pitched five innings of one-run baseball, striking out four batters. Chourio’s breaking ball looked like a bowling ball out there, as he picked up whiffs on 10 of 41 swings (24.3% whiff rate). Chourio allowed a first-inning solo homer, but nothing more despite the Captains getting two runners against him in each of the third and fifth innings. Gutsy would be a word to describe his outing. Daison Acosta allowed one run in 1.2 innings, with his rehab assignment transferred to High-A. Igor Gil allowed no runs in one inning of relief, departing with the bases loaded in the eighth. Will Koger, in his TinCaps debut, got out of the inning without any runs scoring. Koger returned to the mound for the ninth, but a leadoff error did not bode well. Koger struck out Aaron Walton but walked the next three batters. CJ Widger entered and allowed all three inherited runners to score, but stranded the tying run on base to earn the save.

Luke Cantwell opened the scoring in the second inning for Fort Wayne, launching a solo home run off the batter’s eye in center field. Kavares Tears followed up with a solo home run of his own, this one going off the billboard on the right field berm on a line. Ryan Wideman reached base on a walk in the fifth and immediately created some chaos. Wideman stole second before he and Justin DeCriscio pulled off a successful double steal. With the bases loaded, Wideman drew a pickoff attempt from Captains catcher Logan Clark. The throw got away, and Wideman rushed in to score. Luke Cantwell then doubled to score DeCriscio and Kerrington Cross, giving the TinCaps a 5-2 lead. Wideman picked up his first High-A RBI with a single in the ninth inning, and Carlos Rodriguez scored on a double steal. Wideman showed off his wheels as he stole three bases in the game. Suffice it to say, the new TinCaps didn’t need the training wheels!

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 4-2 vs Fresno) (40-31 on the season)

Dawson Willis – 2-for-4, Home Run, Double, Two RBI

Yimy Tovar – 1-for-2, Single, Sac Fly, Two RBI

Carlos Medina – 3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K (50 pitches – 33 strikes)

Lake Elsinore took their first win of the series thanks to a strong effort from their newcomers on offense and the pitching staff. Starting on the mound, Carlos Medina threw three innings of one-run baseball on two days’ rest. Medina struck out four batters, walking none. The right-hander has not pitched past the fifth inning in any of his four starts this month. Isaiah Lowe pitched two scoreless innings, with all six outs coming on balls in play. Jordan Valenzuela picked up two strikeouts in a scoreless sixth, walking two. Brandon Langley threw two scoreless innings, scattering three hits and striking out two batters. Right-hander Sean Barnett allowed one run in the ninth inning, picking up his first save.

Dawson Willis, making the start at first base, picked up two hits and drove in two runs. Willis hit an RBI double in the second inning to put the Storm ahead 2-1. His second hit of the game was a solo home run to left field, clearing the fence and bouncing off the shed beyond left field. Yimy Tovar drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second, later singling to score George Bilecki. Yoiber Ocopio went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Truitt Madonna was 1-for-4 with a single as the DH.

ACL Padres (Lost 9-1 vs ACL Giants) (21-18 on the season)

Eddson Martinez – 2-for-3, Double

Luis De Leon – 2-for-3, Two Singles

Kannon Kemp – 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 0 K

Right-hander Kannon Kemp struggled in his second rehab outing. Coming back from an oblique injury, Kemp allowed four runs on six hits in 1.2 innings. He did not record a strikeout, walking one. Dalvi Nunez allowed one unearned run in 1.1 innings. Erick Batista shouldered the load, striking out six in three innings of three-run baseball. Batista has flashed fastball velocity between 94-96 consistently in the ACL, but will need to harness his command before a jump to Single-A (22 walks in 22.1 IP). Joseph Herrera allowed one run in one inning of relief. Jhoan De La Cruz registered a hit by pitch in two plate appearances, scoring the Padres’ lone run on a balk. Eddson Martinez hit a double and a single in three at-bats, and Luis De Leon hit two singles in the game. The duo combined for all four Padres hits as the team was shut out through five innings.
