The San Diego Padres signed former Colorado Rockies pitcher German Marquez to a one-year deal.

Marquez is a 10-year veteran who has started 200 games in the major leagues.

Joe Musgrove and Michael King are coming off injuries, so it would be wise to add more veteran arms. The Padres need depth, and we should expect a few more signings or trades like this. Marquez, on a one-year deal, is a worthwhile gamble for the Padres.

The details of the signing of Marquez are not known yet. It looks like a 40-man spot will need to be cleared for him.

His deal should come with a major league contract.
