Padres minor league affiliates went 0-4 on Saturday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 6-5 vs Salt Lake) (72-64 on the season)

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-3, Home Run, Double, Three RBI

Luis Campusano – 2-for-3, Game-Tying Sac Fly

Stephen Jones – 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K (41 pitches – 27 strikes)

El Paso rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the game in the ninth, only for Salt Lake to walk off the game. Marcos Castanon continued to hit, finishing with a pair of extra-base hits. Castanon’s fourth-inning double scored two runs, and his solo home run in the ninth inning brought the Chihuahuas within two runs. Castanon’s homer went 470 feet, one of the Chihuahuas’ longest of the season. Tim Locastro finished with two hits and a run scored, as did Nate Mondou. Rodolfo Duran had two singles in the game, and Yonathan Perlaza pinch-hit in the ninth and came around to score a run. Luis Campusano tied the game at five with a sacrifice fly.

Stephen Jones started as the opener, pitching two innings of one-run ball. Jones used his fastball-slider combo to strike out two batters in his outing. Omar Cruz struck out seven batters in four innings of relief, but was tagged with three earned runs on a homer by former first-rounder Christian Moore. Cruz did not issue a walk, throwing 44 of 66 pitches for strikes. Jake Higginbotham struck out four batters in two innings of relief, and has struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings this month. Raul Brito entered in the ninth, but allowed a leadoff double to Cavan Biggio. A sac bunt moved Biggio to third, and former National Carter Kieboom singled to score the winning run.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 4-0 vs Corpus Christi) (62-68 on the season)

Moises Gomez – 1-for-4, Double

Francisco Acuna – 1-for-4, Single

Miguel Mendez – 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 5 K (91 pitches – 50 strikes)

Miguel Mendez allowed three runs in four innings of work, fanning five batters. The electric right-hander worked around two runners on base in the first inning, but was not as lucky in the second. With two outs and one on in the second, Mendez hit Fernando Caldera, and Orlando Martinez hit a triple to right field to score two runs. A wild pitch by Mendez scored the third run of the inning. Fernando Sanchez pitched 2.1 innings in relief, recording six of seven outs via the strikeout. Sanchez was charged with one run on a double by Luis Baez. Josh Mallitz threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, and Garrett Hawkins pitched a scoreless ninth. Moises Gomez’s second-inning two-bagger accounted for the Missions’ only extra-base hit. Francisco Acuna and Kai Murphy were responsible for the Missions’ two other hits in the game, and the team went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 6-1 vs West Michigan) (56-74 on the season)

Sean Barnett – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Jack Costello – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Run Scored

Luis Gutierrez – 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K (97 pitches – 61 strikes)

After Fort Wayne won 6-1 on Friday night, West Michigan broke out the Uno reverse card, defeating the TinCaps by a 6-1 final on Saturday. TinCaps starter Luis Gutierrez was tagged for four runs in five-plus innings. Gutierrez struck out seven for the second consecutive outing, and while he did not allow a home run, he did navigate through base traffic early. Four singles and a forceout in the second gave the Whitecaps a 2-1 lead. Gutierrez faced the minimum in the ensuing three innings before the first two batters reached in the sixth. Eiker Huizi came on in relief but promptly surrendered a three-run homer to Brett Ca

Jack Costello finished with two singles and a run scored in the loss. The former Torero started in right field and has seen more time in the corner outfield as the season has progressed. Sean Barnett drove in the TinCaps’ lone run with an RBI single in the second inning. Barnett has seen more time at the dish than on the mound in August and September, but has gone 8-for-52 since August 1. Luke Cantwell and Kai Roberts each finished with a base hit in the loss, but Roberts was caught stealing for the seventh time this season.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 10-5 vs Inland Empire) (56-75 on the season)

Ryan Wideman – 1-for-4, RBI Single, Sac Fly

George Bilecki – 1-for-2, Single, Walk, RBI

Kruz Schoolcraft – 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K (38 pitches – 20 strikes)

In arguably the biggest prospect news of the day, Padres first-round pick Kruz Schoolcraft made his professional debut. Despite being on a pitch count, the left-hander still marveled, recording ten whiffs and four strikeouts. Schoolcraft showed off his blistering fastball, strong slider, and changeup. The left-hander recorded four of his five outs via the strikeout, and once he found his release point, the stuff looked as good as advertised. Landry Jurecka allowed four earned runs in one inning of relief, taking the loss in the game. Cameron Nohos fired off 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Adam Conrad allowed one run in two innings of relief. Clay Edmondson allowed two runs in two innings of work, striking out two.

At the dish, Ryan Wideman was responsible for two of the Storm’s five runs. Wideman singled in Alex McCoy in the opening inning and hit a sacrifice fly to score McCoy again in the third inning. Truitt Madonna hit his first career triple in the game, scoring a run. Ty Harvey had two base hits as the DH, scoring a run. George Bilecki drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run. Jorge Quintana and Bradley Frye each finished 1-for-2 at shortstop, with Frye scoring a run.
