Padres Down on the Farm: September 23 (Kivlehan homers, El Paso falls)
We are in the dog days of the minor league season.
Only the El Paso Chihuahuas were in action Thursday as the Dominican Summer League game for the Padres got canceled.
Things did not go well for El Paso in an 8-2 loss. Arizona Fall League play will begin October 13, so that will provide some opportunities for other minor leaguers in the Padres farm system. All Padres players will be playing for the Peoria Javelinas.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 8-2) (46-75)
Brian O’Grady– 1-4
Patrick Kivlehan– 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K
Jesse Scholtens– 4.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Nick Kuzia– 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
The El Paso Chihuahuas surrendered eight unanswered runs in their 8-2 loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters. El Paso got out to an early lead in the second inning when Patrick Kivlehan hit a solo home run. The Chihuahuas added another run in the third inning on a Matt Batten double to score Michael Cantu. After leading 2-0, things went downhill for El Paso. starter Jesse Scholtens fell apart pitching a scoreless first three innings. He allowed three runs in the fourth inning and then two more in the fifth inning. Shaun Anderson and Evan Miller, the relievers to follow Scholtens, did not stop the bleeding, as they each allowed runs. By the time Miller left, the Chihuahuas trailed 8-2 and never stood a chance.
