Padres affiliates went 3-2 on Tuesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 10-7 vs Round Rock) (22-24 on the season)

Jase Bowen – 3-for-3, Home Run, Double, Three RBI

Pablo Reyes – 3-for-5, Double, Three Runs Scored

JP Sears – 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 4 K (84 pitches – 46 strikes)

El Paso pushed into double digits to win their series opener. Jase Bowen had himself a day, not making an out in the game. Bowen hit an inside-the-park home run for his 11th home run of the season in the third inning. Bowen also hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to score Carlos Rodriguez. Samad Taylor added a two-run single as part of a multi-hit effort; his .944 OPS now ranks third on the team, behind Bowen and Pablo Reyes. Reyes reached base three times, scoring three runs. Mason McCoy drove in three runs in the game, hitting a two-run double in the fourth inning. Will Wagner hit a triple, reaching base on three separate occasions.

JP Sears was unable to replicate the success of his last two starts (10 IP, 2 ER), as he allowed five runs in 3.2 innings. Sears struck out four of 21 batters faced. The southpaw worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, and pitched a scoreless second and third. When things looked to be in cruise control, Sears nearly pitched away a 6-0 lead. The first two hitters Sears faced in the fourth reached base, and a one-out double by Nick Pratto scored a run. A groundout to first base scored a second run, and Sears was one out away from ending the frame. The left-hander was unable to pick up the final out, as a walk and back-to-back singles cut the lead down to one, chasing the Chihuahuas’ starter. Justin Yeager ended the fourth but walked in a run with two outs in the fifth. With the bags juiced and two outs, Garrett Hawkins was called on to end the frame; the Padres’ No. 9 prospect retired Jonah Bride to end the inning. While Aaron Zavala hit an RBI triple against Hawkins, his stuff looked sharp in the altitude. Hawkins consistently hit 96.7 mph on his fastball, though he averaged 95.4 on the pitch. Alek Jacob threw two scoreless innings, striking out one. An amped-up David Morgan was called upon to pick up the save, and he retired all three batters he faced. Morgan averaged 100.5 mph on his fastball, with his sinker averaging 100.1 mph. His breaking pitches were also up between 1.8 & 1.9 mph compared to the season average.

San Antonio Missions (Won 12-6 vs Frisco) (15-25 on the season)

Kai Roberts – 3-for-3, Home Run, Double, Two RBI

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-5, Home Run, Three RBI

Miguel Mendez – 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K (33 pitches – 16 strikes)

San Antonio’s lineup exploded for four home runs in a 12-6 rout of the hosting RoughRiders. Braedon Karpathios made the opening statement with a three-run home run to straightaway center field. Karpathios’ home run came against a left-hander, Frisco starter Josh Trentadue. Karpathios now has a 134 wRC+ in May, with three home runs and an .885 OPS. Kai Roberts went 3-for-3 with two extra-base hits, including his first home run of the season. Roberts, known more for his speed and glove, made quite the impact at the dish. The Missions center fielder also stole three bases in the game, giving him a team-leading 13. Francisco Acuna and Albert Fabian went back-to-back in the second inning. For Fabian, his home run was his third of the season; Acuna, meanwhile, hit his first home run of the season. Ryan Jackson hit two singles, scoring two runs. Ethan Salas also hit two singles, also hitting a sacrifice fly and scoring a run.

Miguel Mendez showed some rust in his start, allowing three runs in the first inning. Mendez only threw 16 of 33 pitches for strikes, departing due to pitch count. Mendez picked up both his outs via the strikeout, so that was not missing from his outing. Omar Cruz threw 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one run and striking out two. Cruz now has 11 strikeouts in his last 5.2 innings of work with San Antonio. Andrew Dalquist threw two scoreless innings, striking out two. The former South Side draftee has had three consecutive scoreless appearances since coming off the development list. Harry Gustin threw a season-high 2.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs on two solo home runs. Despite the runs allowed, Gustin struck out three batters in his relief appearance, throwing 46 pitches. Gustin did see time as a multi-inning reliever last season, topping out at three innings, so the long relief was not a foreign concept to the left-hander. Sadrac Franco fanned two in 1.1 innings to end the game.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 11-2 vs Dayton) (19-21 on the season)

Rosman Verdugo – 1-for-2, Double, Sac Fly, Two Walks

Kasen Wells – 3-for-4, Three Singles, Two Runs Scored

Matt Watson – 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K (70 pitches – 48 strikes)

Matt Watson threw a season-high 70 pitches across five innings for the Manzanas Luchadoras on Tuesday, striking out five batters. Watson allowed two runs on five hits, but showed competitive pitches throughout. The right-hander picked up five outs on the ground, getting eight swings and misses. Watson now has a 2.13 ERA in May across three starts, and is making quite a statement in his pro debut campaign. Isaiah Lowe struggled yet again, allowing four runs in 1.1 innings. Lowe again allowed a home run, as Alfredo Duno took an 88-mph sinker from Lowe down the left-field line for a three-run home run. Braian Salazar struck out the two hitters he faced in the seventh. Will Varmette struck out two in one inning of relief, and while he allowed an earned run for the first time in May, an outfield assist from Kavares Tears helped Varmette and the ‘Caps end the frame. Luis German recorded one out through six batters faced, allowing four runs.

The Fort Wayne lineup was held silent through two innings by Dragons starter Julian Aguiar, who did not allow a hit. Scheduled starter Ovis Portes held the TinCaps to one run on five hits. Rosman Verdugo reached base three times in the game, hitting a sacrifice fly to score the team’s first run. Kasen Wells gave the team plenty of opportunities, going 3-for-4 with three singles from the nine-hole. Wells actually scored the team’s two runs, with his second scoring instance coming on a bases-loaded groundout in the ninth. Alex McCoy hit a double in five at-bats, and Justin DeCriscio reached base twice in the game.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 4-2 vs Visalia) (23-17 on the season)

Jose Verdugo – 1-for-4, Two-RBI Single

Truitt Madonna – 0-for-1, Three Walks, Run Scored

Winyer Chourio – 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 9 K (86 pitches – 52 strikes)

Lake Elsinore lost a series-opener for the third time in four weeks, falling 4-2 on the road to Visalia. Winyer Chourio struck out nine in 4.2 innings, but allowed four runs on five hits. The four runs allowed in the start were a season-high for Chourio, who now leads the California League in strikeouts with 51. Nick Falter threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, picking up five swings and misses. Vicarte Domingo got seven whiffs in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three. Jose Verdugo drove in the lone two runs of the game for the Storm on a two-run single. Truitt Madonna drew three walks, coming around to score one run. Ty Harvey drew a walk in four plate appearances, but struggled defensively, allowing six stolen bases. Kerrington Cross reached base twice in the game, also scoring a run.

ACL Padres (Won 7-6 vs ACL Mariners) (6-7 on the season)

Brendan Durfee – 1-for-3, Double, RBI

Jhoan De La Cruz – 0-for-0, Four Walks, Two Runs Scored

Luis Maracara – 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K

A pair of San Antonio Missions joined the ACL Padres on rehab assignment, and the team’s plate discipline led to a 7-6 win. Brendan Durfee started a rehab assignment, going 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Durfee also caught five innings. Jhoan De La Cruz drew four walks, not registering an at-bat and scoring two runs. Yimy Tovar hit two singles, driving in three runs. Eduarlin Tejeda drew two walks, scoring two runs. Luis Maracara threw 1.2 innings in his start, allowing two runs with two strikeouts. Ryan Och, who started the season on the injured list, made his first rehab appearance, throwing a scoreless third inning. Erick Batista allowed four runs in one inning of relief, and Yoesmerli Beltre threw two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Jordan Valenzuela struck out three of four batters faced to pick up the save.
