Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Sunday.

Let’s dive into the series finales.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 11-5 vs Sugar Land) (27-36 on the season)

Nick Solak – 3-for-5, Three-Run Home Run

Clay Dungan – 2-for-3, Two-Run Home Run

German Marquez – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (47 pitches – 28 strikes)

German Marquez allowed one hit in four innings in his second rehab start. The right-hander struck out two batters, but picked up just two whiffs. Six of nine balls in play against the right-hander came off the bat over 95 mph, which was a red flag in his performance. Even so, Marquez’s velocity continues to trend upwards, averaging 95.1 mph on the fastball. Jackson Wolf pitched 3.1 innings in long relief, but allowed five runs. Wolf allowed eight hits, with four of five barrels coming against his four-seam fastball. The left-hander turned to his slider the second time around, and had much more success that way. Alek Jacob pitched the final five outs, earning his third save.

Carlos D. Rodriguez put the Chihuahuas on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Nick Schnell hit a sac fly of his own in the fourth to extend El Paso’s lead to 2-0. After falling behind 3-2, Blake Hunt tied the game with a sacrifice fly of his own to score Will Wagner. Clay Dungan then hit a line-drive two-run home run to give El Paso a 5-3 lead. Nate Mondou singled in a run in the seventh, and Nick Schnell hit a two-run single to make it a three-run frame. Nick Solak capped off the scoring in the eighth with a three-run home run, his ninth of the season. Five of nine starters for El Paso had multi-hit performances, with the aforementioned Schnell, Dungan, and Solak joining Marcos Castanon and Will Wagner in that regard.

San Antonio Missions (Won 7-4 vs Wichita) (25-32 on the season)

Luis Verdugo – 1-for-3, Two-Run Home Run

Ethan Salas – 2-for-5, Two Singles, RBI, Two Runs Scored

Ian Koenig – 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 5 BB, 2 K (75 pitches – 42 strikes)

Right-hander Ian Koenig gutted through four innings without his best command, as he navigated around five walks issued. Koenig struck out two, but held the Wind Surge to four hits. The right-hander only got three swings and misses, with most of his strikes coming on balls in play or called strikes. Koenig has worked his way into being a stabilizing presence for the Missions’ rotation. Omar Cruz threw two innings in relief, allowing a solo home run. The left-hander also picked up four strikeouts, as well as the win. Francis Pena threw a scoreless seventh inning despite a 50% strike rate, issuing one walk. Josh Mallitz picked up his second save of the season, pitching two scoreless innings with four punchouts. The Boca Raton, Florida native has not allowed a run in his last five appearances.

The Missions used a balanced offensive performance to earn the win on Sunday. Luis Verdugo supplied the power, as the Missions’ third baseman launched a two-run home run, his third of the year. Braedon Karpathios hit two singles, drawing one walk and scoring a run. Karpathios has walked in 20.6% of his plate appearances since the calendar turned to May, and the Pennsylvania native hit .474 with a .643 on-base this series. Ethan Salas hit two singles as well, driving in one run and scoring two. San Diego’s No. 1 prospect has had success when taking the ball where it’s pitched, and he put that all-fields approach on display on Sunday. Salas also stole his 12th base of the season. Kai Roberts hit a double as part of a multi-hit game, scoring one run. Kai Murphy hit two singles, driving in one run. Albert Fabian was held hitless in the game, but drove in two runs on a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring groundout.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-2 vs Lake County) (24-33 on the season)

Jake Cunningham – 1-for-2, Home Run, RBI, Two Walks

Justin DeCriscio – 1-for-4, Single, Run Scored

Jamie Hitt – 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K (82 pitches – 53 strikes)

Fort Wayne’s offense was held to three or less runs for the second consecutive game. Jake Cunningham continues to live up to the “Jake the Rake” moniker, as he launched his 14th home run of the season. Cunningham posted a 1.146 OPS in 23 at-bats against the Captains this series. Justin DeCriscio was among four TinCaps players with a single, scoring one of the team’s two runs. The former NC State shortstop has now slowed down too much since joining the TinCaps, hitting .266 with a .776 OPS in 21 games. Zach Evans hit a single in four at-bats and has reached base safely in nine of his last 10 games. Kasen Wells went 1-for-4 with a single and is slashing .295/.383/.352 since May 1.

Jamie Hitt pitched four innings, allowing three runs. The left-hander allowed one earned run in the start, as two of three runs were of the unearned variety. Hitt was able to induce 14 swings and misses on 53 strikes, with seven outs in play coming via the groundball. Hitt’s fastball-changeup 1-2 combo has allowed him to be successful in producing weak contact. In something of a statistical anomaly for scorekeepers, Hitt did not allow any ball in play that registered as a fly ball, with the closest being a lineout to Kasen Wells in the third. Javier Chacon threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The left-hander entered the game having allowed runs in three straight outings, and bounced back splendidly. Braian Salazar threw two scoreless innings, with two ground ball outs. Tucker Musgrove struck out two in a scoreless ninth. Musgrove has not allowed a run in back-to-back appearances.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 7-5 vs Fresno) (33-24 on the season)

Luke Cantwell – 2-for-5, RBI Single

Jose Verdugo – 2-for-5, RBI Single

Carlos Medina – 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K (73 pitches – 47 strikes)

Right-hander Carlos Medina pitched effectively, throwing 4.1 innings of two-run baseball. Medina struck out three, but continued to miss barrels, with a 4-to-4 flyout to groundout distribution. The right-hander has been able to get results thanks to command and movement as opposed to flat-out swing-and-miss stuff. Nick Falter continues to shine in relief, pitching 2.1 innings of two-run baseball. Falter struck out two and walked two; while he did not pick up many whiffs, Falter continued to get suboptimal quality of contact from opposing batters, which is backed up by his 20% infield-fly ball rate this season. Sean Barnett threw a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts. Will Koger threw the ninth and tenth innings, tossing a scoreless ninth before allowing the ghost runner to score in the tenth. Nonetheless, he picked up the win after a Storm rally in the 11th. Brandon Langley closed out the win with a scoreless eleventh, earning his first career save.

Ryan Wideman went 1-for-3 with a home run in the game, scoring two runs. The Storm center fielder’s home run was his fifth of the campaign, raising his average to .314. Wideman also swiped his California League-leading 37th stolen base of the season. Kerrington Cross hit an RBI single to score Wideman; Cross reached base twice against Fresno. Jorge Quintana drove in two runs, finishing 1-for-5. Luke Cantwell delivered an RBI single in the tenth inning, one of his two hits in the game. Jose Verdugo delivered an RBI single in the eleventh inning, and Conner Westenburg scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Truitt Madonna was 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored, while Bradley Frye also doubled and scored a run.
