Padres minor league affiliates went 4-1 on Thursday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas – Rained out vs Sugar Land

El Paso’s regularly scheduled game against Sugar Land was rained out. The game will be made up on June 27 as part of a doubleheader.

San Antonio Missions – Suspended vs Midland

The Missions’ regularly scheduled game vs Midland was suspended after less than two innings due to inclement weather. Henry Baez had thrown 1.2 innings of shutout baseball with one strikeout. Kai Murphy had the team’s lone RBI with an RBI single in the second inning in the game. The game will resume on June 27 as part of a doubleheader.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 7-1 vs Great Lakes) (35-36 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 3-for-4, Home Run, Two Singles, Four RBI

Ryan Jackson – 3-for-3, Home Run, Single, Three RBI

Miguel Mendez – 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K (85 pitches – 54 strikes)

Three seemingly unheralded Padres prospects were at the center of the TinCaps’ victory on Minor League Baseball’s Game of the Day. On the mound, Miguel Mendez’s breakout campaign continued, as the right-hander fired off six innings of one-run baseball. Mendez’s explosive fastball was again the headliner, as the right-hander averaged 97-98 mph throughout the game, hitting 100 mph early on. The right-hander’s arsenal kept the Loons guessing, as Mendez was able to use his slider, sweeper, and changeup successfully off the fastball. Cole Paplham, the Dark Knight of Fort Wayne, tossed 1.1 innings of shutout baseball, hitting 100 on the heater with his splitter and slider generating devastating movement. Ruben Galindo closed out the game with 1.2 innings, hitting 96-97 and looking at full strength.

Braedon Karpathios and Ryan Jackson each had statement days at the plate. Starting with Karpathios, the left-handed hitting outfielder hit a home run and drove in four runs; each of his base hits drove in a run. Karpathios continues to show impressive plate discipline and power potential (with his ninth homer of the season), and if he can whiff less at the plate, his offensive ceiling will grow higher. Ryan Jackson continues to carry over his strong performance with Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne. Jackson had a three-hit game, not making an out. Jackson also homered, launching a two-run homer to left-center. It was Jackson’s first homer with the TinCaps after three in 62 games with the Storm. Jackson also batted leadoff for the ‘Caps, and has hit .281 with an .806 OPS as the leadoff batter this season. Oswaldo Linares hit a double and scored a run, while Rosman Verdugo reached base on a single, his eighth consecutive game reaching base.

Lake Elsinore Storm (won 7-2 vs Modesto) (31-40 on the season)

Victor Figueroa – 3-for-4, Two Home Runs, Three RBI

Lamar King Jr – 1-for-1, RBI Single

Boston Bateman – 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 9 K (89 pitches – 60 strikes)

Lake Elsinore made a thrilling comeback against Modesto, led by first baseman Figueroa’s two-home run game. Figueroa had three hits, all for extra bases, and drove in three runs. His home runs were hit to different areas of the field, clearing the right field “Ad Monster” and launching the second to straightaway center. Chase Valentine had three singles and scored a run, and Lamar King Jr had a pinch-hit single in his lone AB of the night. Ryan Wilson had two singles and a sac fly, scoring a run of his own. Kaden Hollow had two base hits, scoring two runs.

Boston Bateman continues to impress on the mound, as he fired off five innings of two-run baseball with nine strikeouts. The nine punchouts were a career-high for Bateman, and he got whiffs on 36.7% of swings against. Bateman has pitched to a 3.54 ERA with a more pristine 2.32 FIP in 56 innings this season. Vicarte Domingo tossed two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two and walking none. Domingo has struck out 32.2% of opposing batters, and with his fastball carrying 18-20 inches of induced vertical break on the regular, the former 19th-rounder has the makeup of a future late-inning reliever. Igor Gil earned the win with two scoreless innings of his own, striking out one and lowering his ERA to 3.00 in 27 innings at Lake Elsinore.

I'd like this amount to

ACL Padres (Lost 7-3 vs ACL White Sox) (10-30 on the season)

Kale Fountain – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Luis De Leon – 1-for-3, Single, Run Scored

Adan Moreno – 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 1 K

Kale Fountain drove in one of three Padres runs as the team lost 7-3. Fountain’s first-inning RBI single gave the team a 1-0 lead, and Albert Fabian drove in their second run on a forceout. Luis De Leon singled and scored a run, and Yoiber Ocopio singled in the game. Ocopio has now reached base in seven of his last eight games, Ismael Javier stole two bases, and Fountain stole his tenth base of the season.

Adan Moreno started for the Padres and went two innings, allowing two runs. Moreno’s command was not overly sharp, as the right-hander walked three batters in his two innings of work. Winyer Chourio allowed three runs in two innings, striking out three batters. Chourio has been one of the team’s better arms in terms of run prevention, as he had only allowed four earned runs over his first three appearances this month, spanning 9.1 innings. Yovannki Pascual allowed three hits but no runs in an inning of work, while Alejandro Lugo allowed two runs in his lone frame on the mound.

DSL Padres Gold (Won 5-3 vs DSL Red Sox Red) (11-6 on the season)

Jhojan Downer – 1-for-3, RBI Double, Sac Fly

Jose Verdugo – 2-for-4, Two-RBI Single

Joseph Herrera – 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Jesus Castro started for the Padres Gold, recording two outs and allowing two runs. Four relievers went on to throw 8.1 innings of one-run baseball; Joseph Herrera threw the bulk of the innings, working four innings of one-run ball and allowing a run on two hits. Jeferson Villabona earned his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Jhojan Downer had two runs driven in, hitting an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Moises Valdez tied the game with an RBI single, and Jose Verdugo gave the team a lead on a two-RBI single. Santiago Contreras hit two doubles in the win, scoring a run.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 2-0 vs DSL Royals Ventura) (9-7 on the season)

Yonaiker Hernandez – 1-for-2, RBI Single, Walk

Darian Castillo – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Dalvi Nunez – 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K

Dalvi Nunez threw four shutout innings as the Padres Brown went on to shut out the DSL Royals Ventura by a 2-0 score. Nunez struck out five while walking four, allowing three hits in the process. Nunez has been a consistent arm for the Padres Brown this season, and now has a 4.05 ERA after his first four professional starts. Jose Montijo threw three shutout innings of relief with three punchouts of his own. Montijo earned the win as the pitcher of record, his second of the season. Yonaiker Hernandez keeps hitting, hitting an RBI single to score the first run of the game. Darian Castillo had an RBI single of his own, extending the Padres’ lead to 2-0 after three. Sebastian Pena and Angel Mejia each scored a run in the game, both going 1-for-3.
