Padres affiliates went 1-2 on Wednesday.

Here is the daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 8-4 vs Reno) (37-34 on the season)

Clay Dungan – 3-for-5, Home Run, Two RBI

Mike Brosseau – 1-for-4, RBI Single

Omar Cruz – 2 IP, 6 H, 6 R (5 ER), 2 BB, 1 K (53 pitches – 29 strikes)

Reno jumped on El Paso starter Omar Cruz, tagging the left-hander for five earned runs in two-plus innings of work. When Cruz was in the zone, opposing batters were not swinging and missing, but putting the ball in play. Cruz departed with two runners on in the third, and both runners would come in to score against Austin Krob. Krob did not allow any runs of his own, and neither did Bryan Hoeing and Francis Pena. Hoeing and Pena each tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

The Chihuahuas showed some bite in the early innings, rallying to score four runs in the first six innings. El Paso got three runs against Reno starter Bryce Jarvis, with Clay Dungan hitting a two-run home run to bring El Paso to within three in the fifth. Mason McCoy grounded out to score a run earlier in the game, and McCoy reached base twice in the game. Mike Brosseau singled in the team’s fourth run in the sixth inning, and Forrest Wall scored a run in the game. The issue for the Chihuahuas was the middle of their order, as the 3-6 batters went 0-for-13 with three walks. Luis Campusano was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, and Jason Heyward went 0-for-5. Heyward is now 2-for-21 on his rehab assignment, making his return to the big league club a murky situation.

Tirso Ornelas did not play in the game as he was placed on the 7-day injured list on Wednesday, with Kevin Kopps returning to the Chihuahuas as a corresponding roster move.

San Antonio Missions (Won 1-0 vs Frisco) (37-28 on the season)

Brandon Valenzuela – 1-for-4, Game-Winning RBI Single

Moises Gomez – 1-for-4, Double

Braden Nett – 5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K (89 pitches – 59 strikes)

Fresh off an outing in which he was simply dominant, Braden Nett kicked his performance up a notch against Kohl Drake and Frisco. Nett struck out a season-high 10 batters while allowing six hits but no runs. Nett was masterful against a potent RoughRiders lineup, and batters were caught by surprise by his sharp curveball. Nett’s performance kept the team in the game, and the Missions’ bullpen didn’t skip a beat. Stephen Jones struck out two in an inning of work, and Ryan Och struck out all four batters he faced in 1.1 innings of work. Tyson Neighbors worked the ninth inning and struck out three batters, touching 95 mph on his fastball.

The Missions’ lineup faced a tough task against the Rangers’ top prospect Kohl Drake. The Missions were held to one hit over the first seven innings of the game, with that hit being a double off the bat of Moises Gomez. Anthony Vilar had a leadoff double in the eighth, but was left stranded. The Missions broke through in the home half of the ninth, as Francisco Acuna was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Devin Ortiz bunted Acuna to second, and Brandon Valenzuela singled on a grounder that got through Sebastian Walcott at shortstop, scoring Acuna to win the game and vault the Missions to first place in the Texas League South.

Fort Wayne TinCaps – Game Cancelled vs Dayton

The TinCaps’ regularly scheduled game against the Dayton Dragons was cancelled due to rain. The game was not postponed, so it will not be made up. Thursday’s game will likely be started by Harry Gustin, who will step into Clark Candiotti’s spot in the TinCaps rotation.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 5-3 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (29-36 on the season)

Zach Evans – 1-for-3, Two-RBI Single

Carlos Rodriguez – 1-for-2, Double, Walk, RBI

Kash Mayfield – 3 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 8 K (51 pitches – 32 strikes)

The Storm got another incredible outing from left-hander Kash Mayfield. Mayfield tossed three innings and struck out eight batters. The left-hander allowed an unearned run on a failed pickoff throw from catcher Carlos Rodriguez, but did not allow any hits. Over his last three outings, Mayfield has struck out 18 in eight innings of work, walking only one. Vicarte Domingo allowed two earned runs in two innings, striking out two. Bernard Jose tossed a scoreless ninth inning in the loss, working around one hit.

The lineup had a challenging time against Quakes starter Christian Zazueta, as the Storm struck out 10 times in the first five innings. Lake Elsinore tallied five hits, with Zach Evans driving in the team’s first two runs on an RBI single in the sixth inning. Even with his teammates’ recent scoring surges, Evans still leads the Storm in RBI this season. Cobb Hightower scored a run in the game, finishing with a walk in three plate appearances. The Storm are easing Hightower back into game action, as he has played 6-7 innings in each of his games since returning from a lower-body injury. Kavares Tears drove in the team’s third and final run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly.
