Padres minor league affiliates went 3-5 on Tuesday.

Here is a recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 5-4 vs Sugar Land) (51-46 on the season)

Mike Brosseau – 1-for-4. Two-Run Home Run

Yonathan Perlaza – 1-for-4, RBI Double

Ryan Bergert – 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 4 K (75 pitches – 47 strikes)

Ryan Bergert started for the Chihuahuas, delivering four innings and allowing one earned run. Bergert struck out four batters faced, allowing only two hits. The right-hander looks crisp in his first action after the All-Star Break, and could be back at the MLB level for his next turn in the rotation. Miguel Cienfuegos struck out three of eight batters faced in two innings of relief, earning the win. Francis Pena allowed one run on two walks and a hit in 0.2 innings, with Sean Reynolds leaving the jam and serving as the bridge to the ninth. Eduarniel Nunez closed out the game with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Mike Brosseau and Luis Campusano delivered homers in support of the pitching staff. Brosseau’s two-run homer in the second inning gave the team a 2-0 lead, and a double from Yonathan Perlaza added on another run by means of an RBI double. Perlaza has been on fire this month, hitting .350 with a 1.126 OPS in 16 games. Luis Campusano continues to be a mystery, as he launched a two-run homer in the fifth inning, but also allowed a passed ball behind the plate. Brandon Lockridge drew three walks and scored two runs, while Clay Dungan and Mason McCoy each had a stolen base in the game.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 1-0 vs Midland) (50-41 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 3-for-4, Three Singles

Romeo Sanabria – 1-for-4, Single

Henry Baez – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K (67 pitches – 43 strikes)

Henry Baez continues his breakout campaign with five more scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just one hit, walking one and recording four strikeouts in the game. Baez’s sinker has led him to success this season, as he now has a 1.96 ERA and 2.84 FIP in 91.2 innings. J.B. Wendelken tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Ryan Och walked two in 0.2 innings, allowing an RBI single to give Midland a 1-0 lead.

Albert Fabian has done nothing but hit since making it to the Missions, hitting three singles on Tuesday. Fabian is now hitting .387 in 31 at-bats with the Missions, and has seen time in left field and at DH. Romeo Sanabria had a hit in four at-bats. Brandon Valenzuela has been mired in a 4-for-34 slump in his last nine games, with only one extra-base hit.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 4-2 vs Cedar Rapids) (45-45 on the season)

Sean Barnett – 1-for-4, Two-Run Home Run

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-5, RBI Double

Ian Koenig – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K (74 pitches – 46 strikes)

Two homers and four extra-base hits led the TinCaps to a close win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the team’s first road trip to Cedar Rapids since 2018. Sean Barnett hit his second homer of the season with the TinCaps, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Rosman Verdugo also homered in the game, launching his 11th home run of the season. Braedon Karpathios had two hits in the game, with an RBI double in the seventh inning scoring Kai Roberts. Jackson finished with two hits, including a double, while also recording an outfield assist in the first inning. Leo De Vries finished 1-for-4 with a single and a walk in the game.

Ian Koenig has pitched well this month, and that trend continued in this game. Koenig fired off five scoreless innings with two strikeouts. The San Jose native has not been a big strikeout arm in his brief minor league career, but has succeeded by generating ground balls and soft contact. In three July starts, Koenig has a 1.04 ERA (2 ER in 17.1 IP). Ruben Galindo allowed two runs in 1.2 innings, and Misael Tamarez fired off 1.1 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to set up the save. Garrett Hawkins entered for the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. It was Hawkins’ 23rd consecutive scoreless outing, and in that span, he has pitched 30 scoreless innings, striking out 42 and walking only five batters.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 7-5 vs Stockton) (41-50 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 2-for-3, RBI Single

Kasen Wells – 1-for-4, Two-RBI Single

Humberto Cruz – 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K (60 pitches – 42 strikes)

Lake Elsinore got another boost to their offenses in outfielder Alex McCoy, who made his return to the lineup. The hulking slugger from Hofstra finished with two hits, driving in a run on an RBI single in the fourth inning. Kasen Wells, also recently returning from injury, finished with a two-RBI single in the game. The roster move on offense shifted Victor Figueroa to the DH spot, where he went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk, and two runs scored. Kavares Tears saw time in right field, and Carlos Rodriguez finished 1-for-1 as a pinch-hitter, hitting an RBI double. The top three in the lineup were held hitless, but Cobb Hightower reached base on a strikeout-wild pitch combo, leading to a run-scoring play.

Humberto Cruz started and went four innings, throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes. However, Cruz was tagged for three homers by Ports batters, only striking out one. However, this is the sort of outing that Cruz can bounce back from, as his command appeared to be much more in sync when assessing him now and at the start of the season. Johan Moreno allowed a run on three hits in two innings of relief. Former Harvard Crimson Tanner Smith pitched the final two innings for the Storm, allowing an unearned run on three walks, also striking out three batters.

ACL Padres (Lost 4-1 vs ACL Rockies) (14-45 on the season)

Jesmaylin Arias – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Emil Turbi – 2-for-3, Two Singles

Josh Mallitz – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

The ACL Padres lost 4-1 on Tuesday after two of their six pitchers used each allowed two runs. The Padres committed five fielding errors in the game, with four coming from infielder Jose Sanabria. Josh Mallitz started for the Padres and threw three strikeouts in two innings. Young sinkerballer Dane Lais walked one and struck out one in his own two innings, recording four ground ball outs. Elvis Reyes allowed two runs in 0.2 innings, walking two and giving up two hits. Alejandro Lugo struck out three in an inning of work, and Xavier Ruiz allowed two runs in one inning, striking out three.

Emil Turbi had two of the Padres’ five singles in a losing effort. Jesmaylin Arias had the lone RBI with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Jose Sanabria and Luis De Leon each had one single in the game, with Sanabria pulling off the team’s lone successful stolen base. The team stranded seven runners on base in the loss, finishing 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

DSL Padres Gold – Split Doubleheader vs DSL Brewers Blue

Padres Gold won 10-7 in Game 1 (Completion of July 18)

The DSL Padres Gold opened their doubleheader with a win over the DSL Brewers Blue. Picking up in the top of the fourth inning, Eddson Martinez hit an RBI single to kick off the action. Jeronimo Palmeros threw three innings of one-run ball, striking out two batters. Angel Sanchez allowed one run and departed with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, and all three bequeathed runners scored off Johan Minaya. Minaya also allowed the tying run to score. Tied at six in the tenth inning, Jhojan Downer gave the team a 7-6 lead with an RBI double. The bases would soon be loaded, and the Padres Gold added on thanks to a walk, hit batter, and wild pitch. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed a one-out double to make the score 10-7, but struck out the last two batters to seal the win.

I'd like this amount to

Padres Gold Lost 8-5 in Game 2

Kevin Tamburini – 2-for-3, Double, Two RBI

Alexander Garcia – 2-for-4, Triple, Two-RBI

Carlos Alvarez – 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K

The Padres Gold scored five runs in the first two innings, but the team allowed eight unanswered runs, falling 8-5. Alexander Garcia had a triple and a single, driving in two runs. Kevin Tamburini had an RBI single and an RBI double in the game, finishing 2-for-3. Fabian Alcantara and Moises Valdez each scored a run in the game, with Alcantara also driving in a run on a fielder’s choice. Carlos Alvarez started for the Padres Gold and was tagged for four runs in three innings. He did strike out five batters while only walking one, which was a step in the right direction for the young southpaw. Edwyn Hernandez allowed one run in two innings, and Jose Montijo allowed three runs on three hits in the sixth, taking the loss.

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 6-2 vs DSL Astros Blue) (17-18 on the season)

Dayquer Alfonzo – 2-for-4, RBI Single

Tom Guerrero – 2-for-4, Double

Marco Eluscat – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K

Marco Eluscat continues to marvel in his second campaign, as he struck out seven over five innings of work. Eluscat has been as reliable as they come for the Padres Brown this season; that much goes without saying. Victor Pilar allowed two runs in two innings, and Wilkins Matos allowed two in one inning of relief. Jeuris Guzman walked two and allowed one run in the ninth inning. Dayquer Alfonzo had two hits, and his RBI single in the first gave the team a 1-0 lead. Tom Guerrero is finding his groove at the plate, as he had a double as part of a two-hit day. Juan Martinez doubled and walked, with his walk scoring a run. Jose Bericoto and Sebastian Pena each had one hit, with Bericoto scoring a run.
