Padres affiliates went winless in five games on Wednesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 5-1 vs Las Vegas) (43-54 on the season)

Marcos Castanon – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Bryce Johnson – 0-for-3, Walk, Stolen Base, Run Scored

Jackson Wolf – 4 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 6 K (83 pitches – 59 strikes)

Jackson Wolf faced off against former Padre farmhand Braden Nett in the Chihuahuas’ loss to Las Vegas. Wolf allowed four runs in four innings, striking out six batters. Las Vegas picked up seven hits against Wolf, who picked up half his outs via the strikeout. Ty Adcock struck out two batters in two innings of one-run baseball. Misael Tamarez did not allow a run in 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking three. Justin Yeager picked up the final out on a fly ball. Marcos Castanon picked up the Chihuahuas’ lone hit in the game with an RBI single against Braden Nett. The Chihuahuas drew 10 walks in the game, with six against the Aviators starter. Dustin Harris, Carlos Rodriguez, and Nick Pratto drew two walks in the game. El Paso went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, stranding nine in the loss. 

San Antonio Missions (Lost 7-5 vs Frisco) (42-50 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-4, Two Singles, RBI

Jake Cunningham – 1-for-3, Single, Walk, Stolen Base

Jamie Hitt – 5 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 4 BB, 6 K (92 pitches – 58 strikes)

Left-hander Jamie Hitt made his first start at the Double-A level, but did not get a courteous welcome. The southpaw allowed seven runs in five innings, with a trio of RBI extra-base hits accounting for six of the seven runs scored against Hitt in the first two innings. As Hitt settled in, his sequencing allowed him to pick up six strikeouts, as well as eight whiffs total. Even with so much base traffic, Hitt was able to give his team length and has pitched four-plus innings in four of his last seven games. Igor Gil made his Double-A debut in relief, striking out five of seven batters faced. Tucker Musgrove pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out five batters. The Missions staff struck out 16 batters in the game.

The Missions’ offense was slowed by David Davallilo, as they only scored one run against the Frisco starter. Braedon Karpathios drove in two of the Missions’ five runs in the contest, with an RBI single in the fourth inning to put San Antonio on the board. The Missions scored two in the fifth, with Francisco Acuna scoring on a throwing error. Ryan Jackson then hit a sacrifice fly to score the team’s third run. Jake Cunningham drew a walk in the sixth, and a single from Karpathios scored Cunningham from first; Frisco center fielder Dylan Dreilling saw the baseball kick off the tip of his glove and into left-center field. Ryan Jackson hit into a double play in the seventh inning with runners on the corners, which saw Acuna score yet again. Ethan Salas went 0-for-3 with a walk in the contest. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 9-1 vs Lake County) (38-53 on the season)

Ryan Wideman – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Stolen Base, Run Scored

Alex McCoy – 1-for-4, Single, Stolen Base

Winyer Chourio – 3.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K (55 pitches – 34 strikes)

The TinCaps’ pitching staff allowed six hits all game, but 10 walks proved costly in a 9-1 loss. Winyer Chourio pitched into the fourth inning, allowing two hits and one walk.  Chourio actually faced the minimum through three innings, but allowed three baserunners with one out in the fourth. A walk, a hit batter, and two hits later, the Captains took a 2-1 lead on a single to right paired with a Kavares Tears throwing error. Chourio, who threw 26 pitches to that point in the frame, was relieved by Clark Candiotti with two on and one out. Candiotti saw two inherited runners score, plus three runs of his own. Jose Leclerc threw a scoreless fifth inning in the game, his first rehab appearance in Fort Wayne. Carlos Medina made his TinCaps debut in long relief, allowing two runs in 2.2 innings. Medina walked five while striking out just one, a final line very much unlike his season performance to this point. Braian Salazar pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a run in relief.  Ryan Wideman picked up two singles in the game, stealing a base and manufacturing a run. Wideman stole third base as the lead runner on a double steal in the first inning, and a throwing error allowed Wideman to score the TinCaps’ first and only run of the game. Alex McCoy singled and stole a base in the game, his 16th stolen base of the season. Kerrington Cross reached base twice in the game on a single and a walk, and Luke Cantwell went 1-for-4 with a single as the TinCaps’ DH on the loss. 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 13-1 vs Visalia) (47-45 on the season)

Jorge Quintana – 1-for-3, Triple, Walk, Run Scored

Yimy Tovar – 1-for-4, Double

Cameron Nohos – 3 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K (72 pitches – 45 strikes)

There would be no six-game sweep for the Storm this time against the Rawhide, as Lake Elsinore dropped their Wednesday game by a 13-1 final. Cameron Nohos made his first start in the California desert, and the right-hander allowed six runs in three innings. Nohos walked two while striking out four. Home runs were the biggest issue for the right-hander, as he allowed two home runs in the game. Nohos slides into the Storm’s rotation for the stretch run, and the 6-foot-8 right-hander will look to work on his command and the repeatability of his delivery with Single-A. Daichi Moriki allowed two runs while picking up just one out. Jeferson Villabona allowed two runs in 2.2 innings, striking out four batters. Brandon Langley allowed two runs on three hits in one inning, and Carson Swilling struck out three in two innings of relief. Shortstop Jorge Quintana picked up a triple in the game, scoring the Storm’s lone run. Quintana reached base twice in the game and sits in the midst of his best month at the plate. The former Brewers signee is slashing .275/.383/.451 with one homer, eight RBI, and nine stolen bases in 13 games. Yimy Tovar went 1-for-4 with a double, and Yoiber Ocopio reached base twice, starting at first base. 

ACL Padres (Lost 2-0 vs ACL Reds) (33-26 on the season)

Eddson Martinez – 1-for-3, Single, Stolen Bases

Santiago Vargas – 1-for-3, Single

Adler Cecil – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K

Adler Cecil dominated the ACL Reds on Wednesday, striking out eight batters in five scoreless innings. Cecil recorded more than half his outs via the strikeout, with four outs coming via the groundball. Cecil has now struck out 27 in 15.2 innings in July. Dariel Polanco took the loss, allowing two runs in the sixth inning. Eddson Martinez had one of two Padres hits, stealing his eighth base in the desert. Santiago Vargas also singled in the loss, while Jesmaylin Arias drew the team’s only walk.
