Padres minor league affiliates went 5-3 on Tuesday.

Here is a recap of games played, along with the weekly roster roundup.

Roster Roundup:

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 9-7 vs Albuquerque) (43-39 on the season)

Mike Brosseau – 3-for-5, Two Home Runs, Three RBI

Yonathan Perlaza – 2-for-3, Home Run

Jackson Wolf – 4.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R (6 ER), 2 BB, 4 K (91 pitches – 60 strikes)

In a classic PCL baseball game, El Paso came back from a 7-2 deficit.. only for the Isotopes to score two in the bottom of the eighth for a 9-7 Chihuahuas loss. Jackson Wolf took the mound for El Paso, and it appears that his early-season Linsanity run has come to a close in the harsh climate of the PCL. Wolf allowed nine hits and seven runs in 4.1 innings pitched. While the southpaw struck out four, leading with the four-seamer again led to hard contact against him. While he kept the ball in the park, nine hits allowed was a season-high. Manuel Castro threw 1.1 innings of relief, and while he hasn’t had the sharpest command, he flashed an impressive five-pitch mix and hit 94.4 on the fastball. Bradgley Rodriguez tossed a scoreless frame and looks to be back in all caps, reaching 99.5 with his sinker. Sean Reynolds was dealt with the loss, allowing two runs in an inning.

Mike Brosseau hit two home runs in the game, driving in three runs. The former Tampa Bay playoff hero’s two homers were his first since June 19. Luis Campusano drove in two runs in the eighth inning, with his two-run double being the game-tying hit. Yonathan Perlaza hit his eighth home run of the season, and Nate Mondou drove in a run on an RBI double. Brandon Lockridge returned and went 2-for-4, recording the team’s highest exit velocity of the game at 108.4 mph off the bat.

San Antonio Missions (Won 7-6 in 10 innings vs Corpus Christi) (43-33 on the season)

Brandon Valenzuela – 2-for-5, Home Run, Walk-off Double

Nerwilian Cedeño – 2-for-3, Double, RBI

Henry Baez – 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K (86 pitches – 51 strikes)

Missions right-hander Henry Baez allowed four runs for just the third time this season, but the team fought back to win in extra innings. Baez struck out three in four innings, allowing six hits. His command was somewhat shaky, and the delayed start time was not beneficial either. Baez threw two wild pitches and failed to record an out in the fifth, as three straight hits ended his day. Stephen Jones allowed two inherited runners to score, but escaped the inning thanks to a double play. Jake Higginbotham allowed an unearned run in two innings, and Tyson Neighbors threw two innings, only allowing the ghost runner to score in the tenth. While Neighbors’ strikeouts have been down since joining San Antonio, his pure stuff remains hard to hit for opposing hitters.

Brandon Valenzuela lit the flame that would lead to a comeback win, as his two-run homer in the sixth inning brought the team within two runs. Down 5-2 in the eighth, Devin Ortiz scored on a double by Nerwilian Cedeño, and Ripken Reyes (playing shortstop in place of the injured Francisco Acuna) lined a double to left field, which scored Cedeño. The Missions would tie the game in the ninth, as Moises Gomez singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Wyatt Hoffman. Hoffman moved to second in a balk and took third on a wild pitch. With Marcos Castañon batting, the fifth pitch sailed to the backstop, allowing Hoffman to score. Facing a 6-5 deficit in the tenth and with Ortiz on second, a single by Cedeño was followed up by a bunt from Ripken Reyes. The ball was misplayed by pitcher Anderson Bido, allowing Ortiz to score and Reyes to reach base. Kai Murphy failed to move the runners with a bunt, but Brandon Valenzuela made sure the game went his team’s way. Valenzuela launched a sharp fly ball to center field for a walk-off double, Valenzuela’s fourth walk-off of the year. In 33 plate appearances this season in late-game/close situations, Valenzuela is hitting .485 with a 1.407 OPS. In simpler terms, Valenzuela is Him in those spots and has steadily produced in the clutch.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 7-2 vs Lansing) (38-37 on the season)

Leo De Vries – 2-for-5, Double, RBI

Brandon Butterworth – 3-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI

Ian Koenig – 6.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K (90 pitches – 63 strikes)

Right-hander Ian Koenig had a gem of a start, pitching into the seventh inning for the first time this season. Koenig allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, striking out one batter. He really had his sinker working in the game, as nine of his 19 outs recorded came on the ground, while he also recorded his fair share of weak contact. It was a promising sight for the right-hander, who has struggled through location issues this season. Ruben Galindo threw a scoreless inning of relief, but loaded the bases in the eighth. Manager Lukas Rey turned to Garrett Hawkins for a five-out save, and on Canada Day, the Saskatoon native delivered one of the most dominant ways possible: inning-ending double play in the eighth, and striking out the side in the ninth.

Offensively, the TinCaps broke through for seven runs thanks in part to eleven hits. Leo De Vries kept hitting, as he posted two hits, including an RBI double. Brandon Butterworth continues to make a name for himself, hitting his sixth home run of the season while also reaching base three times. Coming off his best power month of the season, Butterworth is finding his stroke at the right time. Rosman Verdugo, who has reached base as much as anyone in baseball over the past month, kept his on-base streak going, reaching base twice and driving in a run on an RBI double. Fellow on-base enthusiast Braedon Karpathios reached base yet again, doubling to score Butterworth in the seventh inning.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 8-5 vs Inland Empire) (34-42 on the season)

Cobb Hightower – 1-for-5, Walk-off Three-Run Home Run

Yendry Rojas – 2-for-4, Double, Single, Three RBI

Humberto Cruz – 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

It was a special day at The Diamond, as Padres No. 4 prospect Humberto Cruz made his Storm debut. Cruz went three innings, allowing one hit and no runs in his first start in Lake Elsinore. Cruz’s slider was looking sharp, sitting between 83-87 mph and showing impressive depth in its movement. Cruz struck out four batters in the game, a season-high. Kannon Kemp tossed five innings in long relief, allowing four earned runs (and one unearned). While the right-hander was continually sitting in the 93-95 mph range with his fastball, he struggled to locate the pitch at times, either missing too high or too low. Four walks allowed did Kemp no favors. Carson Swilling tossed the ninth inning, allowing no runs and striking out one.

The Storm certainly knows how to thunder back from a late-game deficit, and this night was no exception. Lake Elsinore actually had a 3-1 lead after four innings, as Yendry Rojas had doubled in two runs, and a 66ers error had scored another run. The Storm took advantage of sloppy baseball by the 66ers all game long, as the team also stole eight bases in the game. Lamar King Jr, Victor Figueroa, and Yendry Rojas all had two stolen bases. Kaden Hollow’s seventh-inning RBI single momentarily tied the game at four. Trailing by one in the ninth, Zach Evans led off with a single and stole second with one out. B.Y. Choi walked, and Ryan Wilson was plunked to load the bases. Rojas came through again, singling to score Choi. Pinch-runner Chase Valentine was thrown out trying to score, and the game remained tied with two outs and two on. The stalemate lasted all of two pitches, as Cobb Hightower turned on a fastball to center field, clearing the walls for his first professional homer, a three-run shot of the walk-off variety.

I'd like this amount to

ACL Padres (Lost 7-2 vs ACL Mariners) (10-33 on the season)

Jose Sanabria – 1-for-4, RBI Triple

Jesmaylin Arias – 0-for-3, Sac Fly

Dariel Polanco – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Dariel Polanco threw four scoreless innings for the ACL Padres, striking out four. Polanco has been throwing multiple innings per outing, and it appears that the Padres are testing him as a starter in the Complex League. Manuel Davila allowed two runs, one earned, in two innings of work, striking out two batters. The Nuevo Leon, Mexico native has an inflated ERA this season, but as one of the youngest players in the ACL, he is showing strong stuff and improving command. Darlin Mendez allowed three runs in 0.2 innings, and Alejandro Lugo allowed one run in 1.1 innings of relief.

The lineup recorded only four baserunners all game. Jose Sanabria hit the team’s lone extra-base hit with an RBI triple, scoring Yoiber Ocopio. Ocopio had singled earlier in the second inning. Jesmaylin Arias hit a sacrifice fly to score Sanabria. Gustavo Marquez hit a single in the game, and while Donte Grant was held hitless, he had another outfield assist in the seventh.

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 7-4 vs DSL Tampa Bay) (12-9 on the season)

Santiago Contreras – 2-for-4, Triple, Run Scored

Deivid Coronil – 2-for-3, Two Singles, RBI

Carlos Alvarez – 3.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 2 K

The DSL Padres Gold got a career-high 3.2 innings of work from Carlos Alvarez. However, Alvarez allowed five runs on five hits, only striking out two batters. Angel Sanchez allowed a run in 0.1 innings of work, and Jose Montijo allowed one run in three innings. The Padres Gold got four runs on the board of their own. Santiago Contreras had two base hits, including a triple, while scoring a run. Deivid Coronil had two hits and drove in a run on an RBI single, and Jhoan De La Cruz reached base once and scored a run.

DSL Padres Brown – Doubleheader vs DSL Reds

Won 5-4 in Game 1 (Makeup of June 16)

Endy Rios – 1-for-3, Go-Ahead Three-RBI Double

Tom Guerrero – 0-for-0, Bases-Loaded Walk

Randoll Cruz – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R., 0 BB, 0 K

The first of two games against the DSL Reds was the completion of their June 16 game, and the Padres Brown emerged victorious. The team was trailing going into the top of the seventh inning, but made a mad dash for five runs. With one out, three consecutive batters walked, and after a strikeout, the Padres Brown appear to be one out of way from a shutout loss. Kaden Hernandez drew a bases-loaded walk to put the team’s first run on the board. Tom Guerrero did the same, making it a 4-2 ballgame. Endy Rios flipped the switch and the scoreboard, sending a three-run double to left field that gave the Padres Brown a 5-4 lead. Randoll Cruz earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning, and Victor Pilar earned his first win of the season in his first game, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings.

Padres Brown won 6-3 in Game 2

Endy Rios – 1-for-2, Two-Run Triple

Andres Garza – 1-for-3, Triple, RBI

Marco Eluscat – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 7 K

Marco Eluscat tossed five innings of one-run baseball, striking out a career-high seven batters in a Padres Brown win. Eluscat has been one of the most impressive young pitchers in the Padres system, and now has a 2.86 ERA this season. Daniel Burciaga earned a two-inning save with one strikeout. Andres Garza hit an RBI triple to score the Padres’ first run of the game, and scored on a wild pitch. Two outs and two baserunners later, Endy Rios hit a two-run triple to give the team a 4-1 lead. Tom Guerrero drove in a run on a forceout, and Andres Garza finished the team’s final run on a failed pickoff.
