Padres Down on the Farm: August 4 (Joey Cantillo & TinCaps flirt with no-hitter/Miller doubles twice in Amarillo/Avila rehab in AZL)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Sunday.

El Paso Chihuahuas (66-47) Lost 2-0
Four Memphis Redbirds pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout of the Chihuahuas on Sunday. El Paso lost 2-0. Only Webster Rivas recorded a hit in the game. El Paso only had five base runners in total for the day. Dillion Overton pitched well but was issued a loss and is now 6-5 on the season for the Chihuahuas. He threw five innings of one-run ball, but that was not enough as the offense was non-existent.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (59-51) Won 2-1
The Sod Podles won a close game 2-1 at home against Frisco on Sunday. Brad Zunica singled home Buddy Reed in the 8th inning for the deciding run in the contest. Zunica went 2-for-3 in the game and is hitting .333 (10-for-33) in his last ten games. He has a .775 OPS on the season for the Soddies. Buddy Reed was 2-for-3, and Owen Miller slugged two doubles in the win. Lake Bachar threw 6 2/3 innings and allowed one run while striking out seven. David Bednar saved his 10th game of the season in pitching the ninth for Amarillo. He has a 3.47 ERA so far this season.

Lake Elsinore Storm (58-54) Lost 12-7
Lake Elsinore was beaten up in Stockton as the pitching staff gave up ten runs in the first two innings of a 12-7 loss. Reiss Knehr gave up eight earned runs himself as his ERA spiked to 5.59 on the season. Gabe Mosser relieved the pitcher and allowed four earned runs in four innings pitched. Javy Guerra threw a scoreless inning in the game and struck out a batter. Jalen Washington hit his 3rd homer of the season in a 2-for-4 game. Lake Elsinore knocked out 15 hits in the game but was 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Rudy Giron went 4-for-5 and is hitting .313 on the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (50-60) Won 8-0
The Fort Wayne TinCaps almost threw a no-hitter on Sunday in their 8-0 win over the Michigan Whitecaps. Daniel Reyes singled with one out in the 9th off Jose Quezeda to give Michigan their first hit of the game. Joey Cantillo started the game and went six hitless frames for Fort Wayne. He walked three batters in the game and struck out seven. His ERA is at 1.93 on the season. The left-handed pitcher is getting close an innings limit for the season. The TinCaps recorded eight hits in the game led by Justin Lopez who homered for the 10th time in the season. He has a .300 average in his last ten games and, at 19, still has pretty nice upside. Ethan Skender doubled in four at-bats and is hitting .292 (16-for-65) since being promoted to the TinCaps.

Tri-City Dust Devils (23-28) Won 2-1
Tri-City was victorious in a very close game with the Vancouver Canadians. The Dist Devils won 2-1 on a Nick Gatewood homer in the 6th inning. The DH/catcher has started slowly in 2019, and this is a good sign. Jordy Barley went 1-for-3 and has a .804 OPS this year. Jason Reynold started the game and lowered his ERA to 10.20 with three shutout innings. Connor Lehman earned his first professional win in the game.

AZL Padres 1 (22-15) Lost 6-2
The AZL Padres 1 team dropped a close game to the AZL Giants Orange team on Sunday by the score of 6-2. The Giants got three runs in the 6th and two runs in the 7th, and that was the difference in the game. Edgar Martinez was knocked around as the 18-year-old Cuban right-hander gave up five runs (three earned) in three innings pitched. Pedro Avila started the game and went 3 1/3 innings pitched, striking out eight batters. He should be close to returning to Amarillo. Michael Suarez went 2-for-2 in the loss. The Padres went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.

The AZL Padres 2 team beat the AZL White Sox by the score of 6-0 on Sunday. Four different pitchers threw in the two-hit shutout. 20-year-old Gabriel Morales started, and the lefty failed to allow a hit in 5 1/3 innings pitched. The left-handed pitcher from Venezuela has a 2.45 ERA and is making noise I the AZL. Eudi Asencio, Sam Williams, and Jose Geraldo finished the game for the Padres. Taylor Lomack went 3-for-4 and now has a .829 OPS in Peoria. Luis Almanzar doubled in four at-bats and drove in two runs in the win.
