Padres minor league affiliates went 1-2 on Sunday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 2-1 vs Tacoma) (70-61 on the season)

Nate Mondou – 2-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Rodolfo Duran – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Miguel Cienfuegos – 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 1 K (90 pitches – 50 strikes)

El Paso and Tacoma faced off in a pitcher’s duel between two left-handers, as Miguel Cienfuegos was on the mound for El Paso against Tacoma’s Jhonathan Diaz. Cienfuegos finished his outing one out shy of a quality start, as the Laval, Quebec native pitched 5.2 innings of two-run baseball, striking out one batter. He did, however, pick up 12 of 17 outs recorded via the ground ball, limiting the Rainiers’ chances at a big inning. Tacoma’s two runs came following two singles in the third inning and a balk. Infielder Ryan Bliss hit a single to left field to score two.

Stephen Jones made his Chihuahuas debut with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Harold Castro and Ron Marinaccio also pitched scoreless baseball in the eighth and ninth innings, holding the deficit at one run. The Chihuahuas scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning. Nate Mondoue doubled off Jhonathan Diaz, and Rodolfo Duran drove him in on an RBI single. Duran wrapped up his torrid August with one hit for good measure. Nate Mondou’s double was the only one for El Paso, as out of seven total hits, six were singles.

San Antonio Missions – Cancelled vs Frisco Due to Rain

San Antonio’s series finale against Frisco was cancelled due to rain in the Frisco area. No make-up game will be scheduled.

I'd like this amount to

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 7-5 vs Dayton) (55-70 on the season)

Eguy Rosario – 3-for-5, Two Home Runs, Four RBI

Kasen Wells – 2-for-5, Two Singles, Run Scored

Will Varmette – 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 4 K (77 pitches – 50 strikes)

Both Fort Wayne and Dayton had a player with four RBI in the TinCaps’ home finale, but the Dragons used a five-run fourth to pull away and lead them to victory. Eguy Rosario had his best game since coming back from a sports hernia, launching two home runs and driving in four runs. Jack Costello drove in his 45th run of the season on an RBI single, also drawing a walk in the loss. Kasen Wells finished with two hits at the top of the lineup, scoring one run. In his first month in Fort Wayne, Wells has reached base at a .340 clip in 25 games.

Will Varmette pitched into the fourth inning, but saw the fourth snowball (and not in his favor). Varmette struck out four batters in 3.2 innings, Dayton’s John Michael Faile, who has been a thorn in Fort Wayne’s side each time these teams play, hit a three-run homer to cap off the five-run fourth inning, chasing Varmette from the game. Johan Moreno struck out five of eight batters faced in 2.1 innings, continuing his strong performance since his promotion. CJ Widger allowed a run on three hits in an inning of work, and Josh Mallitz struck out three in two scoreless innings, and has now pitched 11 consecutive scoreless innings across his last seven appearances.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 5-2 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (56-70 on the season)

Dylan Grego – 2-for-4, Home Run, Two Runs Scored

Kavares Tears – 1-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Abraham Parra – 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K

Kavares Tears and Dylan Grego launched homers in support of Abraham Parra’s six strong innings en route to a Storm win in the team’s home finale. Starting with the offense, Kavares Tears started at first base and finished 1-for-4 with a first-inning two-run homer. Dylan Grego had two hits as the leadoff spot in the lineup, launching a homer in the seventh inning. Alex McCoy had a bases-loaded RBI single in the fourth inning, driving in one run. Bradley Frye had a pair of hits, including an RBI base hit in the sixth. Truitt Madonna scored on Frye’s RBI single, and like Frye, Madonna had a two-hit game. Ty Harvey picked up his first professional base hit in the win.

Tanner Musgrove again served as the opener, striking out one in a scoreless inning. Abraham Parra came on in relief as the bulk arm and pitched six innings of one-run baseball. Parra essentially threw a quality start in relief, striking out seven batters (matching his season high). It was the sort of outing the 19-year-old needed, as he had not allowed less than three runs in a start all month. Vicarte Domingo allowed one run in an inning of relief, and Adam Conrad picked up his fifth save of the season in a scoreless ninth.
