Padres Down on the Farm: August 24 (Gore & Lamet pitch well/O’Grady, Mears, & Hassell homer)
The San Diego Padres affiliates were 3-3 on Tuesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Tuesday was busy on the San Diego Padres farm. MacKenzie Gore made his second outing since returning to game action, and he didn’t allow any runs. Dinelson Lamet pitched in Lake Elsinore on his rehab assignment and threw a scoreless inning. In addition to those pitchers performing well, Robert Hassell III and Joshua Mears hit home runs.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 2-3) (39-55 on the season)
Brian O’Grady– 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
José Azocar- 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Caleb Boushley– 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 K
Nick Ramirez– 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K
A quality start from Caleb Boushley was not enough as the El Paso Chihuahuas fell to the Round Rock Express 3-2. The El Paso offense only got five hits in the contest, but they weren’t enough to string together the runs. Brian O’Grady got the scoring early with a home run in the first inning. They didn’t score again until the sixth inning when José Azocar singled in Carl Chester.

The Chihuahuas are off on Wednesday but return to action on Thursday. There is no scheduled starter for the Chihuahuas on Thursday.
San Antonio Missions (Lost 9-4) (45-51 on the season)

Brandon Komar– 3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

The San Antonio Missions fell behind the Midland RockHounds early and lost 9-4. San Antonio made four errors in the contest, and it cost starting pitcher Brandon Komar three unearned runs. Henry Henry and Dylan Rheault each allowed two runs in relief.
Pedro Avila will start for San Antonio on Wednesday.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 10-4) (47-50 on the season)

The Fort Wayne TinCaps got off to an early start and didn’t look back in their 10-4 win over the Dayton Dragons. On just ten hits, Fort Wayne scored ten runs. Five TinCaps hitters got on multiple times, including the top prospect for Fort Wayne Tirso Ornelas.
Danny Denz will start for Fort Wayne on Wednesday.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 8-5) (42-54 on the season)

Joshua Mears- 1-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 BB

The stars for the Lake Elsinore Storm showed out in their 8-5 loss to the San Jose Giants. Joshua Mears hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Then, Robert Hassell III hit an opposite-field home run in the third inning. Most importantly, Dinelson Lamet threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout on his rehab assignment. Also, Brandon Valenzuela walked twice.

Arizona Complex League Padres (Won 6-1) (18-21)

Mason Fox– 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K
MacKenzie Gore shined in the ACL Padres’ 6-1 win. He made his second start since returning to game action and didn’t allow any runs. 2021 first-round draft pick Jackson Merrill did not record a hit, but James Wood got on twice.

The Arizona Complex League Padres are not in action on Wednesday. They will resume action Thursday night against the ACL Indians. There are no scheduled pitchers for that contest yet.
Dominican Summer League Padres (Won 9-3) (22-7)

The DSL Padres overcame a three-run first inning to win 9-3. Miguel Mendez struggled in the first inning but got through four innings. Bradley Rodriguez finished the game with three innings of relief. Six of the nine hitters got a hit, and eight of the nine got on base at least one time.
The Dominican Summer League Padres are off Wednesday but will resume action Wednesday morning against the DSL White Sox. There are no scheduled pitchers for that contest yet.
