Padres minor league affiliates went 2-4 on Thursday, including a 1-0 finish in playoff action.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 6-5 vs Sacramento) (67-55 on the season)

Ripken Reyes – 1-for-2, Two-RBI Single

Luis Campusano – 1-for-3, RBI Single, Walk

Matt Waldron – 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K (96 pitches – 64 strikes)

El Paso and Sacramento went into the seventh inning tied at four before a two-run seventh gave the River Cats a 6-4 lead that would bend but not break. For the Chihuahuas, the team logged five hits and four walks, going 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Cody Roberts doubled to score Nate Mondou in the fifth, and Ripken Reyes hit a two-run single to bring the deficit to one. Luis Campusano tied the game on an RBI single in the sixth, but the go-ahead run was left stranded.

Matt Waldron tossed six innings of four-run baseball, fanning five batters. Waldron only had one rough inning, that being the third. Waldron allowed a leadoff homer in the inning, and three singles and a double later, the River Cats led 4-0. Waldron escaped the inning on a double play, and held the Sacramento lineup off the board in the next three innings. Alek Jacob came on for the seventh, but hung a changeup that Bryce Eldridge sent out to right for a two-run, go-ahead homer. After Ron Marinaccio threw a scoreless eighth, Tirso Ornelas doubled in the ninth, scoring on a groundout by pinch-hitter Will Wagner. Clay Dungan worked a two-out walk to put the tying run on base, but Tyler Wade lined out to end the game.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 10-1 vs Amarillo) (57-60 on the season)

Ryan Jackson – 2-for-4, Two Singles

Damon Dues – 1-for-4, Triple, Run Scored

Jagger Haynes – 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K (30 pitches – 16 strikes)

Missions starter Jagger Haynes was clearly on a pitch count, pitching one inning. Haynes allowed two runs on two hits and two walks. Haynes struck out one of six batters faced, escaping the inning on a double play ball. Jared Kollar pitched five innings of long relief, striking out five batters. Kollar was charged with three runs on seven hits, with a homer by Ben McLaughlin accounting for two of those runs. Kollar has provided the Missions with strong efforts regardless of his role on the mound. Andrew Moore struck out five in two innings of one-run baseball. Wyatt Hoffman pitched the ninth, allowing four runs on six hits.

The Missions lineup created scoring opportunities against Amarillo starter Roman Angelo, but failed to cash them in. As a team, San Antonio worked five walks against Angelo, but finished 0-for-7 with two walks with runners in scoring position in the first five innings. Individually, Ryan Jackson finished with two base hits and his first stolen base with San Antonio. On the season, he is now hitting .276 with a .410 on-base percentage and .776 OPS. Damon Dues hit a triple and scored a run on an eighth inning wild pitch. Braedon Karpathios drew two walks in the game, and Francisco Acuna reached base on a hit and a walk.

Chase Valentine – 1-for-3, Two RBI

Clark Candiotti – 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K (66 pitches – 41 strikes)

The TinCaps and Captains must have really wanted to play a full game, as the teams went on to play two extra innings in what became a 5-3 TinCaps win. Clark Candiotti shined for Fort Wayne, as the right-hander pitched four innings of one-run baseball. Candiotti struck out five batters, with his slider and curveball allowing him to cruise through his outing. Fernando Sanchez pitched five innings in relief on 53 pitches, striking out four batters. Sanchez recorded seven of 15 outs via the ground ball, aided by a pair of double plays.

Fort Wayne scored one run in the first seven innings, as Chase Valentine singled to score Kai Roberts. Roberts stole two bases in the game, bringing his team leading total to 26. Valentine would cash in again in the eighth inning, as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Jack Costello. After Lake County tied the game at two, the TinCaps surged for three in the ninth. Lamar King Jr doubled to break the tie, and three batters later Jack Costello singled to score King Jr from third. Kai Roberts would then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the TinCaps’ third run of the inning. Despite a single and sac fly by the Captains, Fernando Sanchez closed the door on a double play ball, sealing a TinCaps win.

TinCaps Lost 6-5 in Game 2

Brendan Durfee – 2-for-2, Home Run, Three RBI

Kai Roberts – 2-for-4, Single, Triple, RBI

Sam Whiting – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K (74 pitches – 44 strikes)

The TinCaps led 5-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but a five-run rally spelled a Lake County win. Sam Whiting was solid on the mound, pitching four innings of one-run ball. While he walked three, Whiting kept the damage to a minimum, allowing only three hits. His six strikeouts were his most since May 23, and his highest total as a TinCap this season. Johan Moreno struck out two in his TinCaps debut over one inning. Eiker Huizi threw a scoreless sixth inning, working around two hits.

The TinCaps lineup carried over their momentum from game one, scoring three runs in the first inning. Durfee would drive in another run in the second on an RBI single, scoring Sean Barnett. Kai Roberts had two hits, including a triple and an RBI single. Barnett, Jonathan Vastine, and Chase Valentine drew two walks in the game, and Rosman Verdugo finished with two hits.

Leading 5-1 in the seventh, Ruben Galindo walked two and saw a third batter reach on an error. With the bases loaded and one out, Jose Devers doubled to score two. Ryan Cesarini doubled to tie the game. Galindo then walked Juan Benjamin, prompting manager Lukas Ray to call on Luis German to stop the rally. German balked, and Maick Collado was walked to load the bases. German then hit Kyle Dernedde on a 3-0 pitch to score the winning run.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 4-2 vs Stockton) (52-65 on the season)

A four-run fourth and a quality start from Jesus Castro gave the Padres Gold their first win in DSL Cup pool play. Castro went six innings and struck out six batters, walking only one. The right-hander allowed five hits but never allowed a runner to reach third base. The Padres Gold struck for their first run in the second, as Jhojan Downer put down a bunt with two runners on, but a throwing error by Astros third baseman Sami Manzueta scored Jhoan De La Cruz. The Padres Gold pushed the lead to five in the fourth. A single by Abraham Bastidas scored De La Cruz, and Bastidas came in to score on a sac fly from Moises Valdez.
