Padres minor league affiliates went 2-2 on Wednesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 12-3 vs Reno) (63-52 on the season)

Luis Campusano – 3-for-5, Two Home Runs, Three RBI

Tyler Wade – 3-for-5, Double, Four RBI

Logan Gillaspie – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K (77 pitches – 51 strikes)

El Paso rode a monstrous offensive output to a blowout win over the Aces on Wednesday. Luis Campusano had three hits, including two home runs, driving in three runs. The top run-producer for El Paso was actually center fielder Tyler Wade, who finished with four RBI and three hits. Will Wagner and Tim Locastro each had RBI singles in the seventh inning, both finishing with two hits. Clay Dungan finished with two runs batted in on two hits, and Tirso Ornelas reached base twice in the win.

Logan Gillaspie started and pitched five scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out five batters while walking three, allowing three hits. It was one of Gillaspie’s best outings of the season, and his third consecutive outing of five innings. Wes Benjamin pitched in relief with the addition of JP Sears. Benjamin pitched four innings in long relief, striking out six batters. While he allowed three runs on four hits, Benjamin worked with such a cushion that the Reno runs wound up not being a factor in the Chihuahuas’ win.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 14-8 vs Tulsa) (55-55 on the season)

Romeo Sanabria – 2-for-4, Double, Two RBI

Moises Gomez – 2-for-4, Double, Three RBI

Miguel Mendez – 3.2 IP, 4 H, 8 R, 5 BB, 3 K (88 pitches – 47 strikes)

After an electrifying debut at Double-A, Miguel Mendez had his “Welcome to the Texas League” game, as he allowed eight runs in 3.2 innings. Mendez’s command was at the root of the struggles, as he walked five batters despite allowing four hits. For Mendez, the walks have been something new, as he has now walked 17.4% of batters at Double-A; for context, he only walked 9.6% of batters at High-A and 8% in his three A-Ball games this season. Mendez departed with the bases loaded, and Jose Geraldo allowed a grand slam to score all three inherited runners, skewing Mendez’s final line. Kevin Kopps and Austin Krpb combined to allow five runs over the final three innings.

The lineup for San Antonio has continued to show signs of life as of late, with a quartet of multi-hit performances. Romeo Sanabria had a double as part of his two-hit game, driving in two runs. Devin Ortiz and Oswaldo Linares each drove in a run against Drillers starter Chris Campos. Moises Gomez had a double and a single against the Drillers’ bullpen, driving in three runs. Marcos Castanon also doubled, driving in one run. Castanon also scored three of the Missions’ eight runs. The Missions went 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position, but stranded eight baserunners in the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-4 vs West Michigan) (51-58 on the season)

Lamar King Jr – 3-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-5, RBI Single

Clark Candiotti – 2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 1 K (59 pitches – 32 strikes)

A fourth-inning sacrifice fly against Fernando Sanchez was the deciding play in a 5-4 TinCaps loss to West Michigan. Clark Candiotti started for Fort Wayne, pitching 2.2 innings. Candiotti was in for a rude greeting by the Midwest League-leading Whitecaps, as Izaac Pacheco turned on a middle-away pitch from Candiotti for a three-run first-inning home run. Pacheco would get Candiotti again in the third inning as the Whitecaps scored four on the right-hander. Fernando Sanchez pitched 4.1 innings of long relief for the TinCaps, allowing one run on three hits in his outing. Sanchez struck out three batters, but has continued to perform well regardless of what the TinCaps have asked of him.

Lamar King Jr continues to hit regardless of locale, as the TinCaps catcher had three hits, scoring a run. King Jr also had his team’s lone double of the game. Ryan Jackson was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, scoring Jonathan Vastine on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Braedon Karpathios had a 2-for-5 showing behind Jackson, also driving in a run in the second inning with an RBI single. Jonathan Vastine drove in a run of his own in the third on a sacrifice fly, and Jack Costello would single one batter later to score Kasen Wells. The TinCaps would draw two walks all game, finishing 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 7-0 vs San Jose) (50-60 on the season)

Carlos Rodriguez – 2-for-2, Double, Single, Three RBI

Alex McCoy – 3-for-4, Double, Three Runs Scored

Kash Mayfield – 5 IP,  1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K (73 pitches – 43 strikes)

As Jim Johnston once wrote, Here comes the money! Kash Mayfield was utterly dominant in his start against the San Jose Giants, striking out seven batters across five innings. Mayfield walked three but allowed one paltry hit. He was dominant throughout the outing, inducing two double plays to cruise through five, ending Giants rallies almost at will. Mayfield has pitched to a 1.77 ERA and 3.36 FIP in his last six games, and back to full strength, he could be in line for further dominance the rest of the season. Johan Moreno and Kleiber Olmedo each threw two scoreless innings, both working around minimal base traffic.

Alex McCoy continues to hit and hit and hit, one for every base hit he earned in the game. McCoy had three hits and scored three runs; the Storm DH has now hit .421 with a 1.406 OPS in August, hitting three homers and four triples. Carlos Rodriguez drove in two runs for Lake Elsinore, giving the team a lead in the first. Jorge Quintana hit a sacrifice fly in the second, finishing the game 2-for-3. Kale Fountain had an RBI single in the fifth inning, and Ryan Wideman hit his first professional double to score Fountain. Jorge Quintana flashed his speed with a steal of home base on a play right out of the Javier Baez playbook, swiping home on a pickoff to first.
