The San Diego Padres appear to have completed the remaking of their team by finally adding the bat(s) that the team has desperately needed.
The Padres are finalizing a deal to acquire 1B Ryan O’Hearn and OF Ramon Laureano from the Baltimore Orioles, immediately adding two power bats to an offense that has struggled for chunks of the year.

O’Hearn is primarily a first baseman/DH candidate who has minimal experience in the outfield.
After a number of years struggling in Kansas City, O’Hearn signed with the Orioles and experienced a renaissance. He mashes right-handed pitching and has success controlling the strike zone, walking 12% of the time and striking out only 17% of the time. I
n 2025, he’s hitting .283 with 13 HRs and 43 RBIs. He is playing out a club option for $8 million and will be a free agent next year. Out of all the trades that the Padres have made at the deadline, O’Hearn is the only player that will be a free agent in 2026.
Laureano is expected to slide into left field and provide the team with both better defense and offense than they’ve received from everyone not named Gavin Sheets.

A steady bat with Oakland, he joined Baltimore in the offseason, filling out an outfield crowded with talented young players. He’s batting .290 with 15 HRs and 46 RBIs. He signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Orioles at the start of the year with a club option of $6.5 million for 2026. With that in mind, Laureano could remain a Padre into 2026 and give the team a set outfield for next year.
However, both power bats did not come cheap;
The Padres sent back six minor leaguers to the Orioles, many of whom were part of the Padres’ 2024 class. This includes: LHP Boston Bateman, RHP Tyson Neighbors, INF Cobb Hightower, INF Victor Figueroa, RHP Tanner Smith, and INF Brandon Butterworth, all members of the Padres’ 2024 draft class.

With less than two hours to go and supposedly a deal for Cease being worked on, there are still cards and deals that could be made.
