Most importantly, Mikey Varas took the team’s identity and gave it shape on and off the field.
His contract extension, although still unknown in length, is proof of trust and certainty from ownership.
From the fandom standpoint, Mikey is a man who has shown he is 100% committed to the team and to the city. He positioned himself as a man of the people since his announcement as SDFC’s first manager in history.

Under Varas’s hand, San Diego ended first place in the Western Conference with 19 wins in 34 matches. Contending for most of the year for the MLS Supporters Shield. Also, reaching the Western Conference Final is no small feat. On day one, SDFC was slated to be dead last on all the national media broadcasts.
Is he the unsung hero San Diego FC needed?
We will see in due time, and if we know anything about soccer, it can be such a cruel and unfair game sometimes. Today, the game and the team rewarded a manager who exceeded expectations and showed that, as a united group, this team can continue to demonstrate its worth. To prove to people that this team is new, but can still accomplish things like the rest.
Most praise what Mikey Varas has done with the team and congratulate him on this extension. They hope he continues to show how far the team can go under his management.
The 2026 season will bring more challenges, and expectations will be high given the 2025 results and how the offseason has been shaping up. Also, there will be multiple commitments for the team with the MLS season, Leagues Cup, and Concacaf Champions Cup.

Rodrigo is a passionate soccer fan, fan is an understatement. Following SDFC, Xolos and most of the top leagues in the worlds. Binational grown, loving both sides of the border.
