Padres select OF Ryan Wideman with 2025 third-round pick
Western Kentucky Athletics

The Padres have added another promising player with their last pick on Day 1.
The Padres have already added LHP Kruz Schoolcraft at No. 25 overall, and are on the lookout for more talent.
While the team’s top prospect list is loaded with pitching, the Padres are looking for the best player they can draft at No. 99, being linked to both pitchers and position players in the buildup to the draft.
With the 99th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the San Diego Padres have selected outfielder Ryan Wideman out of Western Kentucky.

Wideman is an absolute specimen, standing at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds. Wideman hits from the right side and hits for plenty of power while also displaying plus-plus speed. There are plenty of raw tools with Wideman, as he has posted impressive exit velocities and has the ability to play all three outfield positions.

His work in center field leaves room for growth, and he could be best suited to handle left field. His speed/power combination is one of the most promising in the draft, and he has room to grow as a hitter as well, with a middle-of-the-order profile being his ceiling. Wideman has the tools to succeed at the next level, and polishing some of his offensive weaknesses will take his game to the next level.
With their first-round pick now locked in, the Padres close out their Day 1 with two selections and look to keep adding on Day 2.
