San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-5 on Tuesday.

Here is a recap of the night’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 10-3 vs Alburquerque) (28-36 on the season)

Miguel Cienfuegos – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K (80 pitches, 50 strikes)

Miguel Cienfuegos recorded his first victory at AAA after posting a quality start in the Chihuahuas victory. The left-hander allowed two runs on five hits over six innings. Cienfuegos recorded only two strikeouts, but eight groundouts and two double plays recorded would assist his outing. Tommy Nance tossed two frames of one-run ball, and Logan Gillaspie recorded a scoreless ninth.

Nine of the Chihuahuas’ 14 hits went for extra bases. Graham Pauley had a two-double day, while Cal Mitchell had a multi-homer day. Five of the starters for the Chihuahuas had multi-hit efforts, with Matthew Batten and Eguy Rosario also homering. Batten and Mitchell would each post a three-RBI night, and Nate Mondou would score two runs.

San Antonio Missions (won 5-4 vs Corpus Christi) (26-31 on the season)

The Missions rode the long ball to a win against Corpus Christi, hitting four homers in the win. Robbie Tenerowicz and Robert Perez Jr would open the scoring with solo homers, and after the Hooks took the lead, Brandon Valenzuela put the Missions up 4-3 with a go-ahead two-run homer. Valenzuela continues his tear in the month of June, pushing to reach AAA before being Rule 5 eligible this offseason.

Victor Lizarraga had a strong start despite a strike rate below 60%. The right-hander threw five innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Despite getting into several deep counts, Lizarraga would be able to work through it. He allowed three runs in the fifth, laboring through the frame but escaping, allowing only three runs. While Omar Cruz would allow a run across two innings, the southpaw struck out five in relief. Jason Blanchard and Josh Roberson fired a scoreless inning apiece to hold off the Hooks and secure a 5-4 win.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 1-0 vs Lake County) (25-33 on the season)

The Fort Wayne TinCaps were shut out by the Lake County Captains, losing by a score of 1-0. Enmanuel Pinales tied his longest outing of the season, going seven strong innings. The right-hander did not allow a walk and punched out five batters. The lone blemish on his outing came on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and two strikes. That’s how close Pinales came to another scoreless outing. Nonetheless, it is a great sign from the 23-year-old right-hander, who could work his way to the “top prospects” conversation by season’s end.

The offense was led by a three-hit game by Homer Bush Jr. The Padres’ No. 8 prospect continues his hot start to June, now hitting .321 with a .472 on-base percentage this month. Infielder Devin Ortiz recorded a multi-hit game as well, while Ethan Salas would reach base once in four at-bats. The team would, however, go 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position while stranding six runners, including ending the game on a double play.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 10-4 vs Stockton) (28-28 on the season)

Luis Gutierrez – 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K (74 pitches, 51 strikes)

The Storm held a 4-0 lead after five innings but would allow ten unanswered runs to lose 10-4. Luis Gutierrez started for Lake Elsinore and went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four, throwing strikes on 69% of his pitches. Gutierrez retired the first nine he faced but would exit, leaving the bases loaded. Keegan Collett would enter in relief and would allow the three runs to score, along with four runs of his own to flip the game on its head. Javier Chacon would allow one run in two innings, and Yerry Landinez would surrender two runs in the ninth.

The Storm’s offense fared well in the early going of the game. While Leodalis De Vries only notched one hit, the Padres’ No. 4 prospect would score twice in the game. Rosman Verdugo would have three hits, including an RBI single. Nick Vogt would turn on the power, hitting his first homer of the season. The team performed an admirable 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position but could not do much against the Ports’ bullpen, recording only three walks and no hits over the final three innings.

ACL Padres (Lost 9-2 vs ACL Giants) (15-14 on the season)

Glenn Otto – 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K

The ACL Padres fell behind early and were outslugged by the ACL Giants, losing by a final score of 9-2. Glenn Otto made his second rehab start and did not fare well, allowing three runs on three hits, including a home run. Otto has struggled mightily coming off a teres major strain, allowing six runs in 1.2 innings at the Complex level. It is yet to be determined where Otto will make his next appearance, as he still has 23 days left for his rehab assignment. Alejandro Lugo, on rehab assignment from A-Ball, tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

The offense only mustered two runs on nine hits. Three of those came from Spence Coffman, who is now hitting .298 on the season. Kaden Hollow also recorded a multi-hit day, scoring once and recording one of two extra-base hits. The Padres went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and were unable to capitalize on several of their opportunities.

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 10-3 vs DSL Dodgers Bautista) (2-3 on the season)

The DSL Padres Gold were blown out on Tuesday, losing by a final score of 10-3. The offense recorded six hits and eight walks but went a paltry 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Yoiber Ocopio went 2-for-5 with a double in the game, and third baseman Kevin Hacen was 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Catcher Andres Garcia went 0-for-1 with two walks, with outfielder Alexander Garcia also walking twice.

Starter Erick Batista recorded a three-inning hitless start. However, the right-hander walked six batters and uncorked a wild pitch. Reliever Alexander Agramonte tossed four innings of relief, allowing one earned run, while Angel Sanchez allowed two unearned runs across two innings.

The DSL Padres Brown lost their Tuesday game by a two-run deficit. Right-hander Edinson Hernandez made his professional debut and tossed 3.2 innings of two-run ball. While a pro debut might be a high-pressure situation, Hernandez did not appear fazed, holding the Red Sox squad to two hits and a walk. Dionicio Nova pitched 4.1 innings of relief and would be pegged with the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) while punching out five in his pro debut.
Jesmaylin Arias continued his hot start to the season offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Designated hitter Kevin Tamburini also recorded a two-hit game, scoring once. The team walked four times but went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
