San Diego Padres minor league affiliates went 1-0 in regular-season play on Tuesday.
Here is our daily recap of games played, including updates from all Padres affiliates.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 6-4 vs Tacoma) (2-2 on the season)
Rodolfo Duran – 2-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI
Mason McCoy – 3-for-4, Three Singles, Stolen Base

JP Sears – 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K (66 pitches – 40 strikes)
El Paso took the series-opening win over rival Tacoma on Tuesday. The Chihuahuas were led at the dish by catcher Rodolfo Duran. The former Royals prospect has kept up his form from last season and spring training, as he finished with two hits. One of his hits was a two-run home run to left field against Tacoma starter Randy Dobnak. Duran’s home run came off the bat at 99.3 mph, continuing his trend of making hard contact in the PCL. Mason McCoy finished with three hits and a stolen base in the game, making it a good birthday on the field for the Chihuahuas’ shortstop. Elsewhere in the lineup, Samad Taylor went 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, and Jose Miranda scored two runs in a winning effort.

JP Sears took the mound for his first start of the season, and he had himself a quality outing. Sears pitched five innings of two-run baseball on 66 pitches. 40 of 66 pitches for the left-hander went for strikes. Sears did not rack up a ton of whiffs, as batters only missed on five of 29 swings against him. However, he was efficient and kept the Chihuahuas’ leads intact. Sears could bring his name into consideration for an MLB callup if he keeps pitching as he did today.
Logan Gillaspie came on in relief, throwing two innings of one-run baseball with three strikeouts. Leading with the changeup was the plan for Gillaspie, and it allowed him to get a 36% whiff rate on 11 swings. The right-hander topped out at 95.4 mph in this outing, and could also be in play for a long relief role as the calendar carries on. Miguel Cienfuegos allowed two baserunners while recording one out, but Alek Jacob clutched up for his team, securing a five-out save to seal the win.
JP Sears’ first Chihuahuas start of 2026:
5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K
66 pitches – 40 strikesFB up to 93.1 on average, Sweeper up to 80.9.

San Antonio Missions – No Game
While the Missions do not play until Thursday, the team will be seeing a change in their season-opening rotation. Per the SDUT’s Jeff Sanders, right-hander Griffin Canning will be starting for the Missions on Saturday, April 4. Canning is making his way back from an Achilles injury sustained as a member of the Mets last year, and this move will presumably open his 30-day rehab window. Right-hander Jason Adam will be joining the team as well, making back-to-back relief appearances on Friday and Saturday as he works back from his season-ending patella injury.
Griffin Canning threw a three-inning sim game yesterday at Lake Elsinore. He’ll start Saturday in Tulsa for @missionsmilb. https://t.co/Ql8TPh4EfR
