Padres affiliates had a  4-0 clean sweep on Thursday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 12-2 vs Albuquerque) (15-15 on the season)

Anthony Vilar – 3-for-5, Double, Four RBI

Mason McCoy – 2-for-3, Triple, Three Runs Scored

Evan Fitterer – 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 4 K (74 pitches – 44 strikes)

The Chihuahuas’ lineup likes hitting in Albuquerque so far this season, as they broke out for double digits yet again. El Paso’s effort was led by Anthony Vilar, who finished with a three-hit performance on the road. Vilar doubled and drove in four runs in the game, and the former 15th-round pick is now hitting .282 on the season. Mason McCoy finished with a triple and three runs scored; as a matter of fact, every time McCoy reached base, he came around to score. Sung-Mun Song had a two-hit day, and two of his four batted balls in play registered as barrels with regards to exit velocity. Nick Solak and Nate Mondou also had two-hit games, with Mondou driving in two runs.

Evan Fitterer made yet another strong start, pitching 3.2 innings of one-run baseball. The right-hander has one of the more bizarre fastballs in the system, as he has averaged under nine inches of induced vertical break on his four-seamer. The fastball has sinker-style movement without the tail, while his sinker tunnels very well off the four-seamer. Fitterer now has a 0.96 ERA in 18.2 innings this season, and has fanned 20 in 18.1 innings. Logan Gillaspie threw 2.1 innings of one-run baseball in relief, striking out two and earning the win. Gillaspie’s April was a very up-and-down month, as he pitched to a 5.40 ERA with three scoreless appearances. Misael Tamarez pitched two scoreless innings in relief, peaking at 99.0 mph on the fastball. Tamarez has held opponents to a .163 batting average against this season across 15.1 innings, and the former Astros farmhand has rebuilt his stock with the Padres’ organization. Justin Yeager pitched a scoreless ninth inning despite two walks, and El Paso sealed the win.

San Antonio Missions (Won 5-4 in 12 innings vs Tulsa) (6-18 on the season)

Leandro Cedeno – 2-for-4, Two-Run Home Run

Ethan Salas – 2-for-5, Two Singles, Stolen Base

Fernando Sanchez – 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K (80 pitches – 47 strikes)

In a rousing back-and-forth affair, San Antonio edged past the Tulsa Drillers in 12 innings. The pitching staff performed admirably in their win, as six pitchers combined to strike out 16 batters in 12 innings. Fernando Sanchez, stepping into the rotation full-time in place of Miguel Mendez, pitched 4.1 innings of one-run baseball, with the lone run against him coming on a solo home run. Sanchez pitched up six strikeouts, sequencing his mix to keep the Drillers off balance. The Missions’ bullpen had a bounce-back game after being charged with 13 runs over the first two games of the series. Johan Moreno pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two batters. Andrew Moore allowed the tying run in the seventh inning, but Francis Pena kept the score as it was with two scoreless innings of relief. Pena struck out three batters in two innings of work. Omar Cruz allowed a two-run home run in the 11th inning, but pitched a scoreless tenth to keep the Missions in the game.

San Antonio had a tough task facing Tulsa’s Patrick Copen, but they were able to get a lead against the opposing starter. Leandro Cedeno and Tirso Ornelas reached base in the sixth without the benefit of a hit, bringing up Ryan Jackson. Jackson grounded a soft grounder to third base, but Jake Gelof overthrew the ball. The ball went past first baseman Kyle Nevin and into the dugout, allowing Cedeno and Ornelas to score. Ethan Salas had two singles in five at-bats, stealing his fifth base of the season along the way. The score remained at 2-2 until the eleventh inning, when Leandro Cedeno launched a two-run home run to give the Missions a lead. Despite the Drillers tying the game, Luis Verdugo gave the Missions a lead in the twelfth with a sacrifice fly. While the Missions had a chance for more, Braedon Karpathios was thrown out at home trying to score from first on a double by Carson Tucker. Michael Flynn struck out two in a scoreless twelfth inning, earning the save against his former team.

I'd like this amount to

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-1 vs South Bend) (9-15 on the season)

Rosman Verdugo – 1-for-3, Home Run, Three RBI

Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Double, RBI

Carson Montgomery – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K (53 pitches – 39 strikes)

No need for drama today, as the TinCaps won free and easy by a 6-1 final. Carson Montgomery was on cruise control all game long, as he pitched five innings of scoreless baseball. The right-hander struck out four while walking none in his start, throwing 39 of 52 pitches for strikes. Montgomery’s pitch count was kept low thanks in part to a pair of double plays induced in the first two innings of the game, allowing him to face 16 batters in five frames. He now has a 2.12 ERA across four starts, with 13 strikeouts in 17 innings. Clark Candiotti threw two innings of hitless relief behind Montgomery, striking out one batter. The right-hander has not allowed a run in his last two outings, both of which were multi-inning efforts. Igor Gil allowed a home run in the eighth and three walks in the ninth, but was only charged with one run, as he induced a game-ending double play.

The lineup saw Alex McCoy finish with a three-hit game. McCoy hit his first triple of the season, also scoring a run in the game. Rosman Verdugo drove in three runs in the win; he hit a sac fly in the third inning to score one, and drove in two more on a fifth-inning two-run home run. Jack Costello kept driving in runs, as he hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game in the second inning. Zach Evans finished with two hits, including a ninth-inning RBI double to score Jack Costello. Kasen Wells had a hit in five at-bats, and Jonathan Vastine went 1-for-4 with a double in the win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 9-3 vs Ontario) (14-10 on the season)

Luke Cantwell – 1-for-2, Three-Run Home Run

George Bilecki – 2-for-2, Two Singles, Two RBI, Three Runs Scored

Lucas Giolito – 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K (70 pitches – 43 strikes)

Lake Elsinore took a lead in the seventh inning and used a five-run ninth to handle business in Ontario, winning a second consecutive game. Luke Cantwell’s three-run home run allowed the Storm to erase an early 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning. Cantwell, who has excelled at drawing walks this season, drew two more walks to raise his on-base percentage to .431. Not bad for a player who set the walks record at his former school (Pitt). George Bilecki had two singles and drew three walks in the game as well. Bilecki drove in two runs, including the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Truitt Madonna had a double and two RBI in the ballgame, while the middle infield tandem of Jorge Quintana and Jose Verdugo reached base three times each. Every Storm starter drew at least one walk in the game, as the team drew 16 walks in the win.

Lucas Giolito made his second rehab start for the Storm, pitching into the fifth inning and allowing three runs. Giolito allowed five hits and three runs, striking out six batters while walking one. The right-hander got up to 70 pitches, and if he remains on the five-day schedule, he will likely make three more starts before he must be with the Padres on May 16. Nick Falter recorded the final two outs in the fifth inning, leaving the game tied at three. Bryan Balzer, Lake Elsinore’s scheduled starter, came on in relief, pitching the final four innings. Balzer struck out six in four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. The right-hander picked up half his outs on strikeouts and threw 38 of 53 pitches for strikes in a strong outing.
