The Tijuana Xolos will host Club America at the Estadio Caliente for a match in the Liga MX 2024 Apertura this Wednesday, October 23.
This is one of the most anticipated games of Club Tijuana’s home schedule, with a massive turnout expected at the Border City Fortress.
The Border City Dogs are on a three-game winning streak, coming off a surprising 2-1 win against Necaxa away from home. The Xoloitzcuintles also defeated Pachuca and Mazatlan in this run but now face a more prominent test in Club America.
Xolos also has a massive six-game undefeated home streak heading into this match, without a loss at the Mictlan all season. Club Tijuana is currently in sixth place with 23 points, with only five games remaining in the regular season.
Club America are the current Liga MX champions, but have been struggling this season, in 10th place with 17 points. The Mexico City team is coming off a massive 3-0 win against Santos Laguna that broke a three-game winless streak in league play.
Las Aguilas have an extremely talented squad with players like Diego Valdes, Javairo Dilrosun and Alvaro Fidalgo. However, there has been inconsistency on the offensive front with just 16 goals scored, which is the second-lowest among current top 10 Liga MX sides.
Still, Club America’s backline has been rigid, especially with Luis Angel Malagon in net, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
Club Tijuana are favorites heading into this match, but there is not much to separate both sides. A win has the potential to put the Aztec Canines as high as third place on the Liga MX table.
Manager Juan Carlos Osorio has been specifically tinkering with the offense as of late, playing with or without a natural striker at times. The midfield has scored all of Club Tijuana’s five goals scored in the last three games with strong performances by players like Kevin Castaneda and Efrain Alvarez.
With the Xoloitzcuintles having success in this campaign, it is hard to predict how the crowd will be split due to Club America’s massive fan base. There are usually fans that even make the trip from California and neighboring U.S. states to watch Las Aguilas play in Tijuana. An electric atmosphere is expected at the Estadio Caliente in what has the potential to be a very exciting match.
