Padres Down on the Farm: May 7 (Beshears stays hot in LE)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-3 on Tuesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 15-5 over Alburquerque) (15-19 on the season)
Tim Locastro– (5-for-6) 2B, 3 RBI, 4 Runs, SB
Matthew Batten– (4-for-6) 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI
Brett Sullivan– (2-for-4) HR, 2B, 2 Runs, 3 RBI, BB
Gabe Mosser-4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K (79 pitches- 47 strikes)
The Chihuahuas broke out the sticks on Tuesday as the team banged out 15 runs on 19 hits against the Isotopes’ pitching staff. Tim Locastro led the was with a five-hit night for El Paso. The veteran doubled, drove in three runs, and scored four runs on the night. He also stole a base, Matt Batten went 4-for-6 with a double, and Brett Sullivan homered and drove in three runs in the win. Every member of the starting lineup recorded a hit in the game, and the Chihuahuas only struck out two times on Tuesday night.
Gabe Mosser was on the mound, and the 27-year-old right-handed pitcher went four innings, allowing two earned runs. Tom Cosgrove threw a scoreless inning and struck out two, which is a positive sign for the struggling reliever. The Padres hope he can work out his problems in El Paso and return soon to the major league team. Sean Reynolds also threw a scoreless inning for El Paso in the game.
San Antonio Missions (Lost 4-3 to Frisco) (13-14 on the season)Â

Michael De La Cruz– (1-for-4) HR, 2 RBI, Run, K
Austin Krob– 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, BB, K (82 pitches- 53 strikes)
The Missions got out to an early lead, but Frisco tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and would add on in their next two innings for the 4-3 win. Austin Krob started the game and went five-plus innings, only allowing a single earned run. Josh Roberson relieved him and allowed a run in 1.2 innings of work. Jayvien Sandridge was charged with the loss as he coughed up a run in an inning pitched.
Marcos Castanon and Cole Cummings both recorded two hits in the loss, and Michael De La Cruz homered for the first time this season. The Missions struck out 12 times as a team, led by Castanon, Ray-Patrick Didder, and Zach Reks, who all struck out twice.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-4 in 10 innings to Western Michigan) (10-18 on the season)

Kai Murphy– (2-for-5) 2B, RBI, 2 K
Enmanuel Pinales– 5 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 7 K (76 pitches- 48 strikes)
Fort Wayne lost in a 5-4 walk-off by Western Michigan at home. Will Geerdes surrendered three runs (two earned) in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Whitecaps were victorious on Tuesday night. Enmanuel Pinales started the game and went five-strong innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters. The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher owns a 2.35 ERA so far this season in the Midwest League. Tyler Morgan allowed two earned runs in three innings of relief on Tuesday as the right-handed pitcher blew a hold for the TinCaps.
Ethan Salas is showing some life with the bat of late, and he led the TinCaps on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a double and triple. Salas is surely adjusting to full-season baseball. Homer Bush Jr. is flashing an excellent glove in center field as the outfielder went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Kai Murphy earned two hits, and Tyler Robertson homered in four at-bats for the TinCaps.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 5-4 over Inland Empire) (12-14 on the season)
Jay Beshears– (2-for-4) HR, 2B, 2 RBI, Run, BB, K
Jacob Campbell– (2-for-4) Run, K
Oswaldo Linares– (1-for-3) Run, RBI, BB, K
Fernando Sanchez– 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 5 K (64 pitches- 46 strikes)
The Storm returned home on Tuesday and got an excellent start from Fernando Sanchez in a 5-4 win over Inland Empire. Sanchez went six strong innings and was throwing strikes. The 23-year-old lefty only surrendered a solo homer in the game and struck out five batters. Sanchez owns a 1.93 ERA so far this season. Will Varmette surrendered three earned runs in an inning of relief. Javier Chacon threw two perfect innings to record the save for the Storm.
Jay Beshears continues to swing a hot bat as the third baseman homered and doubled in four at-bats. The 22-year-old out of Duke owns a 1.022 OPS so far this season in the Cal League. Jacob Campbell made his first start for the Storm after playing in the ACL League to begin 2024. He went 2-for-4 in the win. Ethan Long was also promoted to Lake Elsinore and brings a lot of power to the lineup. He went 1-for-3 on Tuesday.
ACL Padres (Lost 5-4 to ACL Cubs) (2-1 on the season)
Spence Coffman– (2-for-4) Run, RBI, K
B.Y. Choi– (2-for-3) Run, BB
Donte Grant– (1-for-4) 2B, K
Luis Guttierez- 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K
The ACL Cubs walked off the ACL Padres, just like the major league team did to the Padres in Chicago. In Arizona, Miguel Valdez imploded for the Padres in the last half of the seventh. The right-handed pitcher allowed three runs to score in the bottom half of the inning. Carlos Rodriguez was charged with an error as the catcher mishandled a throw from shortstop for the game-winner. Henry Martinez started the game and went one inning without allowing a run. He was relieved by Luis Guttierez, who went 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs.
On offense, the ACL team was led by B.Y. Choi and Spence Coffman, who both recorded two hits in the loss. Donte Grant doubled in the game, and Addison Kopack singled and drove in a run. Rodriguez had a tough day behind the dish and at the plate as the backstop went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk.
