Padres Down on the Farm: April 26 (Marsee steals two bases for SA/Solano has big night for EP)
The Padres’ minor league affiliates went 2-3 on Friday.
Here is a recap of the day’s action down on the farm.
El Paso Chihuahuas Game 1: (Won vs. Tacoma Rainiers 7-4, 7 innings)
Donovan Solano: (2-for-4), HR, 2B, 2 R, RBI
Nate Mondou: (3-for-4), RBI
Tim Locastro: (2-for-3), HR, 2 R
Nolan Watson: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
El Paso faced off against a former Cy Young winner in Dallas Keuchel. That didn’t phase Donovan Solano, who doubled and homered against Keuchel in his first two at-bats. Overall, the Chihuahuas scored in five of the seven innings played during the first of a doubleheader. Logan Gillaspie earned his first save for El Paso after the Padres called up the previous closer, Jeremiah Estrada.

El Paso Chihuahuas Game 2: (Lost 3-2 to Tacoma Rainiers, 7 innings)Â
In Game 2 of the nighttime doubleheader, the Chihuahuas got on the board immediately with a Clay Dungan leadoff homer in the top of the first. Bryce Johnson drove in the second run for El Paso in the top of the third with a groundout. The Rainiers kicked it into gear against reliever Bobby Milacki with two runs, tying the game. Brian Anderson smacked a two-run double into the gap.
Anderson drove in the go-ahead run for Tacoma in the bottom of the sixth. El Paso began the seven inning with two pop ups dropped from being misplayed by Rainiers defenders in the driving rain. They got the tying run to second base, but Dungan grounded out to end the shortened game.

San Antonio Missions: (Lost 7-1 to Wichita Wind Surge)

Robby Snelling: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Touted pitching prospect Robby Snelling had a rough outing for San Antonio, surrendering eight hits and four earned runs and not being able to get out of the third inning. The Wind Surge took a commanding 7-1 lead after five innings, and that score remained throughout the game.
Fort Wayne TinCaps: (Lost 5-3 to Great Lakes Loons)
Ethan Salas: (2-for-4), BB, R
Griffin Doersching: (1-for-3), 3 RBI, 2 BB
Homer Bush Jr.: (2-for-3), BB, SB
Henry Baez: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
The Loons jumped on the TinCaps early with four runs in the first inning. Starter Henry Baez settled down after that to pitch four scoreless frames after the big first inning. Fort Wayne got one back in the bottom of the fifth with a bases-loaded walk. Griffin Doersching drove in all three Fort Wayne runs as he added a two-run single in the seventh. But it was not enough.
Lake Elsinore Storm: (Won 5-2 vs. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes)
J.D. Gonzalez: (2-for-4), 2B, 2 R
Wyatt Hoffman: (2-for-4), 2 RBI
Eric Yost: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
The Storm were being no-hit for the first seven innings of this game. The Storm entered the eighth inning down 1-0. J.D. Gonzalez doubled to lead off the inning. A wild pitch got him to third. Wyatt Hoffman singled him home to tie the game. Braedon Karpathios drove in the second run on a sac fly. Lake Elsinore added three runs in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
