San Diego Wave signs Trinity Byars through 2026 season
This Thursday, November 7, the San Diego Wave officially announced the signing of forward Trinity Byars.
The 21-year-old attacker is coming straight from the collegiate level, having been with the University of Texas Longhorns since 2021.
Byars is the first player to sign for an NWSL team after the league’s transition away from the draft format. The Richardson, Texas native enjoyed a very decorated stint with the Texas Longhorns, achieving several individual accolades.
Byars earned several Big 12 acknowledgments and even made the NCCA’s Best Starting XI in the 2022 season. At Texas, Byars scored 52 career goals and came up clutch with 17 game-winning goals and five hat-tricks.
The former Longhorns’ forward has also represented the United States from the U-16 to U-23 level. Her biggest success internationally came at the U-20 level, where she helped the USWNT win the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship and the 2022 Sud Ladies Cup. Byars also played all three games for the U.S. at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she tallied an assist against Ghana.

Along with her collegiate experience, Byars has also trained with Manchester City and Atletico de Madrid in Europe. The Wave has signed Byars through the 2026 season with an option for 2027.
“Trinity has proven to be one of the most dynamic and exciting forwards at the collegiate level. Her ability to play between the lines and threaten in behind is special, and we believe she will be an incredible addition to our team”, said Wave sporting director and GM Camille Ashton.
San Diego had a rough 2024 NWSL season and can use all of the offensive help that a player like Byars can potentially bring to the club.
