Xolos Women’s Team Find Out Opponents for Apertura 2018 Liga MX Femenil Season
The Xolos women’s team didn’t have a great Clausura 2018 season, finishing 12th overall in the Liga MX Femenil and seventh in Group 1 of the tournament.
There will be changes in the next season that will give the border city team greater chances to compete, Xolos Femenil also now know their opponents for the Apertura 2018 season.
In the previous renditions of the Liga MX Femenil tournament, only the top two teams from two groups reached the playoffs.
Now in the Apertura 2018, there will be a quarterfinal stage so the top four teams from two groups will have a chance to compete for the title.
This is great news for Xolos Femenil, who is on the rise with many young and talented players on its roster. There will also be two expansion teams in the Liga MX Femenil next season, Puebla and Lobos BUAP and both will be placed in Xolos’ group.
The Club Tijuana ladies will be in Group 1 of the Apertura 2018 tournament with Puebla, Lobos BUAP, Club America, Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Veracruz, Toluca and Pumas UNAM. Monarcas Morelia was previously in Group 1, but will now switch over to Group 2.
Group 1 is still a very tough group to reach the playoffs out of with teams like Club America, Toluca and Pumas UNAM. But there will now also be a handful of very beatable teams in the group like the two expansion teams, Veracruz and Cruz Azul.
Xolos Femenil isn’t likely to make many signings leading up to the new season with the team’s emphasis on youth development.
The Apertura 2018 Liga MX Femenil starts up a month after the 2018 FIFA World Cup starts, on July 14.
