Xolos Femenil 2019 Clausura: Club Tijuana Ladies Fall 2-0 Against Cruz Azul Femenil
Tijuana, Mexico
Xolos Femenil played its Week 7 matchup against Cruz Azul Femenil this past Monday at the Estadio Caliente.
The Club Tijuana ladies were coming from a 1-0 win against Toluca at home and were expected to win this game against Las Celestes.
Things did not go as expected for the border city team as Cruz Azul was able to get a 2-0 win at the Estadio Caliente. Cruz Azul was winless with just one point in the 2019 Clausura Liga MX Femenil and this was a very disappointing result for Tijuana.
Sharon Barba scored the first goal for the Mexico City team in the 36th minute, then Reyna Velazquez put the finishing blow in the 52nd minute to make it 2-0. Xolos Femenil was never able to get back into the game and fell against one of the worst teams in the Liga MX Femenil at home.
Some of the decisions made by manager Gerardo Romo may have cost the team like benching goalkeeper Itzel Gonzalez and midfielder Valentina Oviedo
. Some clear flaws were seen with the defense and this was a missed opportunity for Xolos Femenil to get some points against a very limited team. There were still signs of promise with the attacking players like Karen Maprigat and Inglis Hernandez, but something was clearly missing on the night.
The Club Tijuana ladies are now in 13th place overall and seventh in Group 1 of the Liga MX Femenil after the defeat. The border city team will visit fourth-placed Puebla at the Estadio Cuauhtemoc in Week 8 to try and turn things around.
