Xolos Femenil 2018 Apertura: Club Tijuana Ladies Lose Second Consecutive Game
Xolos Femenil hosted Club America at the Estadio Caliente this past Monday in its fifth game of the Liga MX Femenil 2018 Apertura season.
The Club Tijuana Ladies had been off to a great start this season with seven points in four games and were also undefeated at home before this match.
Xolos Femenil had defeated Pumas UNAM and Pachuca in their first two home games and were looking for a third home win against Las Aguilas. Unfortunately, it did not play out this way as the border city team lost 1-0 against Club America for its second consecutive loss this season.
Andrea Rodebaugh’s team was coming off a 2-1 away loss against Lobos BUAP and now suffered their first loss at the Estadio Caliente. The game was hard-fought and remained scoreless for the first 82 minutes of play at the Mictlan.
Club America’s game-winning goal came in the 83rd minute when Vannya Garcia connected a header off a cross by Lucero Cuevas.
The goal was a result of sloppy defending by Xolos as the backline could have done a lot more to stop Lucero Cuevas on the wing.
Goalkeeper Itzel Gonzalez did try to clear the cross with a dive, but did just miss the ball as it fell to Vannya Garcia. The Club Tijuana ladies did put up a respectable performance in front of 3,333 fans at the Estadio Caliente.
Midfielder Valentina Oviedo did also get her first minutes this season, coming off the bench in the 59th minute. The 16-year-old looked great last season, and this shows that Andrea Rodebaugh still has plenty of players to work in this 2018 Apertura, which is a great sign moving forward.
