Xolos’ Dayro Moreno Reaches an Agreement With Atletico Nacional
Something was very off with the mood of Saturday night’s Tijuana Xolos game.
The Xolos lost the game because they could not finish their opportunities against the Monarcas. Tijuana’s star man, Dayro Moreno, was nowhere to be found. This was something that even threw the broadcasters off.
Initially, TV Azteca’s on-field reporter indicated that Moreno did not play due to an executive decision. Moreno supposedly was not playing due to the fact he arrived late to the Tijuana Xolos training facilities at the beginning of the year.
Well now, on Sunday, January 8, we know the real reason why Moreno was sitting in the stands during Saturday night’s game.
Dayro Moreno will not be playing with the Tijuana Xolos for this season. He will be loaned out for the year to Club Atletico Nacional of Colombia. Dayro Moreno has now reached a pre-agreement with the Colombian side to play with them the entire year. Moreno just needs to pass the physical and it will be a done deal.
Atletico Nacional is one of the most successful clubs in South America. The Medellin club has won 15 Colombian league titles and two Copa Libertadores titles. They are the current Champions of the Copa Libertadores, which is the most prestigious title for a South American team. Moreno is Colombian, so returning home to play in this league will be a pleasure for him.
Me comentan desde Colombia que Dayro Moreno llega a préstamo por un año.

The Tijuana Xolos have owned Moreno since the 2011 season, and have made several loan deals to Colombian clubs in the past, most recently in 2013-2014 with the Millonarios in the Colombian league. The Xolos will certainly miss Dayro Moreno, as he was the club’s top goal scorer last season with 11 goals. He is also the Xolos all-time goal scorer with 47 goals in 95 appearances.
Gracias @Xolos por esta gran oportunidad. Voy a dar lo mejor de mi!

Hopefully, Juan Martin Lucero, who is coming from the Malaysian league, can fill the void of Dayro Moreno. Lucero has been a done deal for a while, and he will be ready to go for next week’s match against Puebla F.C. Let’s just hope he can provide Xolos fans with some excitement this season.
Francisco, 26, Chula Vista/Tijuana. I have been a Padres fan all my life, did most of the series previews and recaps in the Padres’ 2016 season for EVT. Now I focus more on the local soccer scene. Tijuana Xolos, San Diego Loyal, San Diego Wave.
