San Diego FC beat LA Galaxy 3-1 in a story-filled So Cal showdown.

Despite playing a significant portion of the second half a man down, the hometown team successfully defended their turf to claim all three points.

The victory pushes SDFC into eighth place in the Western Conference standings, officially occupying a provisional playoff spot as the postseason race heats up. 

It was a crucial win for a side currently riding a five-match home winning streak. Elias Achouri set the tone early for SDFC, finding the back of the net in the 11th minute to put the hosts ahead.

San Diego cruised through the remainder of the first half, and Kieran Sargeant extended the lead immediately after the break in the 47th minute.

Shortly after, San Diego was forced to dig deep when Jeppe Tverskov picked up a second yellow card in the 49th minute, leaving the home side down to 10 men.

In the 54th minute, Hirving “Chucky” Lozano marked his homecoming to San Diego in emphatic fashion, scoring to pull the Galaxy within one. As far as the reception from the home fans, the message was loud and clear – any touch Lozano took was met with a chorus of deafening boos. Despite that, the Galaxy looked like they were clawing their way back into the game. 

Even with the disadvantage of being down a man, San Diego did not sit back. Substitute Amahl Pellegrino put the game out of reach with a crucial goal in the 70th minute to seal the 3-1 final scoreline.

Once again, SDFC found a way to prevail under adversity. Beyond securing three points, San Diego remarkably remains undefeated all-time against Los Angeles teams. With 12 matches remaining in the regular season, SDFC carries immense momentum and genuine optimism as it looks to continue climbing the Western Conference table.
