Winter League Report: January 8 (Four Play in Winter Leagues)
The winter offseason leagues are starting to come to a close, but the Padres still had four players representing San Diego play on Tuesday.
Here is a brief recap on how they did on the day:
Australian League
No games were scheduled today
Dominican League
Fernando Tatis Jr: 1-4, BB, K, R
Tatis batted second in the lineup, an unusual spot for him as he has usually slotted in at the leadoff spot or as the cleanup hitter. He picked up a walk and a single while scoring a run for the Estrellas. At shortstop, he was involved in the only double play for the team.
Mexican League
Esteban Quiros: 1-3, BB, K, CS
Quiroz continues to struggle in the Mexican League, but a walk and a hit are encouraging, at least. He was caught trying to steal a base and was involved in two double plays in the field while playing second base.
Puerto Rican League
Aldemar Burgos: 0-3
Manning right field, Burgos didn’t do much at the plate, but neither did the rest of the team, as they were shut out and only managed two hits on the day against three-hitter. He snuck into the EVT’s Top 100 Prospect list at number 100, so he is a prospect worth keeping an eye on.
Venezuelan League
Luis Torrens: 1-3, BB
Back at catcher, Torrens took a walk and singled at the plate while throwing out former Padre Alexi Amarista, who was trying to steal third base. It is likely he will start his season at Double-A Amarillo after his success at High-A Lake Elsinore.
