Where Will Rashaad Penny Land?
When the calendar flips to April, every football fan gets excited as it’s time for the NFL Draft. This year, every Aztec fan is anxious to find out exactly where Rashaad Penny will play the 2018 season.
During his college career, Penny proved time and time again that he is a complete back worthy of NFL play.
He should be drafted within the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft. With that being said, let’s take a look at the teams that might be interested in selecting the former Aztec great on April 26.
New England Patriots
This would be a perfect spot for Penny to begin his NFL career, as Bill Belichick is famous for taking a “running back by committee approach” with his backfield. This would ensure longevity in his career and also give him a winning tradition to begin his NFL career. You have to take into consideration that New England lost Dion Lewis in free agency too, so they might be looking for a running back early in the draft. Penny is a bigger version of Lewis as they both thrive in the passing game and on special teams.
Houston Texans
The Texans already have Lamar Miller as their starting running back so they might not be in the market for a potential starting running back. However, head coach Bill O’Brien is a disciple of Belichick and he knows how valuable it is to have depth at every position. It is also important to know that O’Brien and his coaching staff worked with Penny in the 2018 Senior Bowl in Mobile Alabama, so there’s already some familiarity with the stud running back.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This team, as a potential landing spot, is mostly based on rumors we have heard. There are reports that head coach Dirk Koetter is supposed to be pushing his front office for more explosiveness out of the backfield. If Penny were to land in Tampa, he wouldn’t have the pressure of being a feature player. He would be joining a very talented offensive unit in Tampa. Some scouts within the Bucs’ organization believe that an explosive back is what they need on offense to put them over the top.
Oakland Raiders
There’s a new man in charge in the Bay Area, as former head coach Jon Gruden has returned to coach the silver and black. During his first stint with the Raiders, Gruden had a lot of success with Charlie Garner as his lead running back. Some younger fans probably won’t remember Garner, but he was a very complete back that was a huge asset in the passing game. I know Oakland currently has Marshawn Lynch as its running back, but it is believed that Gruden won’t have the patience to put up with the antics of his star running back.
Obviously a lot can change on draft day and maybe a surprise team will end up selecting Rashaad Penny.
Regardless of where he ends up, there’s no doubt in my mind that Rashaad Penny will be a star at the next level. He is special.

Lions in the 3rd round. Too low for him, but a hunch.
