Weathers struggles as Padres lose to Angels

On Friday night, Joe Musgrove tossed a complete-game shutout for the San Diego Padres against the Los Angeles Angels, and it seemed– for a second– that things might go the Padres way. Unfortunately, Saturday night was not a good one as the Padres dropped the finale of the odd two-game series.
Ryan Weathers struggled again as the Angels blew out the Padres by a score of 10-2 in Anaheim. Weathers went just three innings, giving up four hits and three runs as the Padres dug deep into their bullpen once again.
On the night, Padres manager Jayce Tingler used a total of seven pitchers, once again depleting the already-exhausted bullpen.
The Angels scored at least one run in five straight innings and scored two or more from the third inning until the seventh inning as the Padres leave Anaheim on a sour note.
“Frustrating and hoping that after last night’s outing (with Joe) and getting some momentum, we could get rolling a little bit,” Tingler said after the loss.
Jose Suarez got the start for the Angels and tossed 3.2 innings, and gave up a pair of runs. The Padres’ lone runs on the night came across in the fourth inning. Eric Hosmer drove in Tommy Pham, and Austin Nola drove in Hosmer. After that, the Padres bats went cold once again, which has been a recurring theme as of late. The Padres had just seven hits, and Manny Machado and Austin Nola combined for four of those.
On the other hand, the Angels piled on 12 hits, with Jared Walsh going 3-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs, including a solo shot in the second inning.

After the game, Tingler mentioned that Chris Paddack, Yu Darvish, and Blake Snell should be the three starters for the Diamondbacks series. Moreover, the team will decide on the fate of Weathers, who has failed to throw more than five innings since the start of July.
“I think there’s some things we got to discuss on how we want to move forward.”
In a funky scheduling aspect, the Padres will be off on Sunday and start a new series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in Arizona with a golden opportunity to right the ship and start September off strong.
Chris Paddack is in line for the start on Monday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PST. For the scoreboard watchers, the Cincinnati Reds lost to the Miami Marlins.
