Tijuana Xolos sign Ecuadorian midfielder Jhojan Julio
This Thursday, January 9, the Tijuana Xolos officially announced the signing of 26-year-old attacking midfielder Jhojan Julio.
Club Tijuana has not made many changes to its roster heading into this 2025 Clausura season.
After a successful 2024 Apertura campaign, Juan Carlos Osorio has tried to keep the same squad that achieved this success last season. Julio is an exciting addition to the Border City Dogs as he brings creativity and explosiveness to the attack.

Julio has played most of his professional career with Liga de Quito, which is considered one of the biggest teams in Ecuador and South America. With LDU, Julio has won two domestic league titles along with a prestigious continental Copa Sudamericana in the 2023 campaign.
Julio’s primary position is as an attacking midfielder, but he also has the capabilities to play out on the wings if necessary. The 26-year-old midfielder brings a lot of speed to his game, which has the potential to be very effective in Juan Carlos Osorio’s playing style.
Last year in Ecuador, Julio had a goal and five assists in just nine games as a starter. In 2023, Julio had a breakout year with four goals and three assists in 20 games as a starter.
In that season, Julio was even being considered for the Ecuador national team and had a few appearances with La Tricolor.
It is unclear if Julio will be a consistent starter for Juan Carlos Osorio, given the constant squad rotations. However, this signing adds a lot of attacking depth for the Aztec Canines that has the potential to be valuable moving forward.
Club Tijuana will begin its 2025 Clausura season this Friday, January 10, against Toluca at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana.
