Tijuana Xolos Liga MX CL 19 Week 2 Recap: Xolos Fall 3-0 To Tigres, Still Cannot Score
Tijuana, Mexico
The Tijuana Xolos played their second game in the Liga MX 2019 Clausura season this Saturday, Jan.12 at the Estadio Caliente.
The Aztec Canines hosted Tigres UANL, one of the top teams in Mexico and the clash was set to be a mismatch since the initial whistle.
The Xoloitzcuintles seemed like the dominant team in the first half of the encounter, but could not find the back of the net. Luis Fuentes, Luis Chavez and Miller Bolanos all had failed opportunities and the Xolos worrying finishing issues continued.
The flow of the game was interrupted in the first half as a section of the lights at the Mictlan turned off which caused a 13-minute delay. The second half immediately began differently as Tigres UANL seemed more aggressive and dangerous going forward.
In the 59th minute, the Felines struck with the first goal of the night as Luis Fuentes scored an own goal off a corner kick by Rafael Carioca. Â In the 73rd minute, Andre-Pierre Gignac then scored a spectacular goal off a shot from just outside of the penalty area. The shot was a tremendously powerful one that Gibran Lajud could not do anything about.
To make matters worse, Eduardo Vargas scored the third goal for Tigres in the 86th minute to seal the final 3-0 scoreline. However, almost no one in the stadium was focused on the game as a fan had fallen down the gap between the stands and the field and picked up some serious injuries.
The spectator was rushed off the field and to the hospital as he seemed to be in critical condition with blood all over his face. Club Tijuana has not released an official statement about the fan and hopefully he is in stable conditions.
The Tijuana Xolos have still not scored any goals in the new season and have inclusively already conceded five goals. The Border City Dogs will play second division team Atlante in the Copa MX tournament this Tuesday and then play against Leon away from home on Sunday, Jan. 20.
