The Tijuana Xolos will play their fifth game in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura this Sunday, Aug. 19, against Toluca away from home at the Estadio Nemesio Diez. Club Tijuana is coming off a 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul at home and is winless in its last three games.
The Xolos had a man advantage for most of the game against Cruz Azul and the tie felt a lot like a loss for the border city side. Miller Bolanos scored the goal that earned the Xoloitzcuintles the point in that match and the Ecuadorian forward has now scored in the last two games he has played in. This includes a goal against Toluca in the Aztec Canines’ 2-0 win against Toluca in the Copa MX at the Estadio Caliente.
Fabian Castillo made his debut in Mexican soccer in the Copa MX against FC Juarez this past Wednesday and could also be a key player to watch in this match. The Xolos have struggled to generate scoring opportunities this season and should be in store for a very tough game away from home.
Toluca will have the home-field advantage and the Estadio Nemesio Diez is widely considered to be one of the toughest venues to visit in the Liga MX. The scoring heat in the city of Toluca at the time of day that the soccer games are played can be killer for visiting teams.
Toluca also has a solid team and is currently sitting in seventh place with seven points. Los Diablos Rojos are coming off a very impressive 2-1 away win against Tigres UANL and will be looking to extend their two-game unbeaten streak.
Some of the key players for Toluca include players like Enrique Triverio, Luis Quinones, William Da Silva and former Xolos’ midfielder Luis Angel Mendoza. Starting goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera will be serving a suspension and will not be available for this match, which could be a weak point for the team.
