This Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, the Liga MX officially released the schedule for the upcoming 2020 Clausura tournament. The schedule had to be changed entirely as Veracruz was disaffiliated from the Liga MX, and there are now 18 teams again in the Mexican league.

Thee will also be the introduction of Thursday night games in the 2020 Clausura, and the Xolos will participate in one as the Aztec Canines will host FC Juarez on Thursday, April 16. Most of the Xolos’ home games will be on Fridays, but they will have that Thursday night game and a Sunday night home game against Necaxa on April 5.

The season will begin on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, as the Tijuana Xolo1s will host Santos Laguna at the Estadio Caliente for the home-opener. The Xolos will then travel to the Estadio Corregidora in Week 2 to face Queretaro for their first away game of the season.

Club Tijuana will host Santos Laguna, Club America, Toluca, Chivas, Puebla, Pachuca, Necaxa, FC Juarez, and Atletico San Luis in the 2020 Clausura tournament. The Aztec Canines will play Queretaro, Atlas, Monarcas Morelia, Cruz Azul, Pumas UNAM, Monterrey, Leon, and Tigres UANL on the road in the 2020 Clausura. The fact that there is one more game at home than away for the Xoloitzcuintles in the season is a huge plus, considering how badly the border city team plays away from the Mictlan.

The home games against Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara are specifically enticing as both teams have huge fan bases that will bring in massive crowds. The tickets to those games are expected to be in high demand and sold-out way ahead of the day of the respective games.

While it is nice for Club Tijuana to have an extra home game, there are still some very tough away games to teams like Queretaro, Monarcas Morelia, Leon, Monterrey, and Tigres UANL, who all made the playoffs this season. Atlas, Pumas UNAM and Cruz Azul are also all very tough places to visit as there will be no easy road game for the Xoloitzcuintles in the 2020 Clausura.

New Manager Gustavo Quinteros will have his work cut out for him in his first season as the new Xolos’ boss. The border city side has struggled in road games for several tournaments now, and it will be interesting to see if Quinteros can make a change in that aspect of the team. The Xoloitzcuintles missed out on the playoffs in the 2019 Apertura and will be looking for a bounce-back season in 2020.
