Wednesday is the start of the regular signing period for SDSU and all of college football.
It is safe to say the team will be busy in the coming weeks.
Head coach Sean Lewis announced a significant addition to the team this week.
The SDSU Aztecs signed Lucan Amituanai on Wednesday. That brings the total number of players signed by SDSU to 37. Between the early signing period and winter transfers, SDSU has overhauled the roster in an attempt to get better results for the coming season. It is an exciting time on The Mesa.
Lucan Amituanai is a standout at Elk Grove High School in Sacramento. He is a three-star talent with the ability to get better as he receives collegiate coaching. There is hope that he can excel at SDSU and become a star on defense.
Amituanai earned all-Delta League honors as a senior and was also named to the 2023 Sacramento Bee all-metro team as a junior.
The 6-foot-4 edge rusher recorded 94 tackles and 14.5 sacks in 23 varsity games. He also forced a fumble and recorded an interception in his time with Elk Grove.
Amituanai received multiple offers from schools such as Boise State, Nevada, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah, Washington State, and Wyoming. It is safe to say that the lineman was heavily recruited. This is a great pickup by the Aztecs.
Amituanai first committed to Washington State but changed to SDSU as the Aztecs continued to impress young players.
Here is a video of the young lineman in action.
As you notice, he has a quick first step for someone his size.
The powerful lineman can also fight through blocks and aggressively pursue the quarterback.
Amituanai is an outstanding student-athlete. He produced a 3.6 GPA in high school.
The Aztecs are stockpiling excellent athletes for the coming season.
The next season should be fruitful for the Aztecs in Sean Lewis’ second year at the helm.
