Sockers Sign Midfielder Jamie Lovegrove to Bolster Offense
Looking to make a move to bolster their offensive firepower, the San Diego Sockers signed 28-year-old midfielder Jamie Lovegrove before the MASL 20-player playoff roster deadline of February 1.
Lovegrove joins a potent Sockers offense led by Kraig Chiles and Erick Tovar as San Diego pushes for a spot in the playoffs.
Hailing from Crawley, England, Lovegrove last played for the Dallas Sidekicks in the 2016-2017 season, where he accumulated 21 goals and seven assists.
He has played in 55 games in the MASL as a whole, racking up 81 goals and 42 assists for 123 total points. He also played two years at Richland College, playing 28 games and earning NSCAA NJCAA Division III All-America honors.
Lovegrove will join an offense spearheaded by captain Chiles, who leads the team with 34 total points.
He will also join a slew of productive midfielders including Tovar, Brandon Escoto, Luan Oliveira, and Matt Clare, who have combined to score 84 total points for the team.
The Sockers are entering a crucial moment in their schedule. They are coming off their bye week and will be squaring off with the third place Tacoma Stars on February 9 at 7:05 pm. They will host the Sonora de Soles, who defeated them 12-11 in overtime the last time they met, on February 11, 5:05 pm
The game against Sonora is one of three home games remaining for San Diego.
They will face the Rio Grande Valley Barracudas on February 24 at 7:05 and finish the season hosting the El Paso Coyotes on March 3, 7:05.
The Sockers hope that their latest acquisition can help propel them to the playoffs and a fifteenth championship.
