San Diego FC made history in its inaugural 2025 campaign, and Anders Dreyer also had quite a historical season of his own. The Danish forward led the club in goals (19) and assists (17), but almost exclusively crafted these stats on the road.

Dreyer scored 17 of his 19 goals away from Snapdragon Stadium and also provided 10 of his 17 assists on the road. With these numbers, Dreyer is now the MLS player with the most goals (17) and goal contributions (27) in road games in a single season.

The 27-year-old forward finished the sensational campaign by scoring two goals and providing an assist for Amahl Pellegrino. This was Dreyer’s second consecutive road brace to close out the season.

Dreyer was not alone in this success away from home, as SDFC finished the season as the best road team in MLS. San Diego racked up 37 road points, which was the best in Major League Soccer. The second best was Cincinnati with 3.5, followed by a sizable gap, with Minnesota in third with 30.

A team performing better in other stadiums than in its own has no exact science, as it is very contrary to the normal standard. Most professional sports teams excel in front of their home crowd, which is the case with Club Tijuana just a few miles south of Snapdragon Stadium.

San Diego secured home-field advantage in the Western Conference playoffs with this recent 4-0 win over Portland, and it is unclear if this will actually serve as an advantage.

Anders Dreyer scored the same number of goals at Snapdragon Stadium in 17 games as he did in single games at Providence Park, Shell Energy Stadium, Soldier Field, Allianz Field, and Dignity Health Sports Park. However, there is less of a disparity in the assists provided at home and away, as he was still a top producer for this team regardless of the field.

Dreyer’s season is an anomaly, something never seen before in Major League Soccer. His speed, playmaking ability, potent shots were all put on display this season.

The world already knew what a player like Lionel Messi was capable of, but Dreyer was a real revelation in this 2025 campaign. Several people have already taken notice as he has been receiving call-ups to the Denmark national team. This could mean playing time in the World Cup next summer if his form stays consistent.

Dreyer was not only the best road player of the season, but he was also San Diego’s best player without a doubt in this inaugural campaign. It will be exciting to see what the playoffs bring for SDFC and this Danish star.
