SD Loyal SC match preview against Orange County SC
The San Diego Loyal travel up the I-5 freeway for a Pacific Division matchup against Orange County SC
Coming off a tough 2-2 draw last time out against the Phoenix Rising, the Loyal are looking to push that frustration to the side and earn their second win of the season.
The match will be played Wednesday, June 9, at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, California.
The match starts at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+ as well as Fox 5 San Diego. The match will also be streamed on Azteca 33 in Spanish.
This road trip marks the sixth in seven games to start the season. The schedule committee certainly didn’t do the Loyal any justice, but additionally, the following six of seven matches will be played at home in San Diego.
This match against OC will be the second of three played this week.
“We have a very deep squad now, so, that helps us a lot,” Manager Landon Donovan said. “Having the ability to rotate guys if needed, is crucial. Our job now is to get guys physically ready and emotionally up again and get ready for Wednesday and you then have to turn around quickly to face L.A. It’s going to be a challenging week. We knew it coming in and we have a lot of guys who can help us. We are going to need them too.”
Orange County is coming off a 3-1 victory against the Sacramento Republic last time out. It’s worth noting that their only two wins this season came against Sacramento, and so they are (0-2) against Tacoma Defiance and Los Angeles Galaxy II. OC is fifth in the division with six points, and the Loyal are in seventh place with four points.
The all-time head-to-head series is at (1-1-1). In their first matchup last season, the Loyal defeated OC 2-0 at home at USD. The next matchup ended in a 0-0 tie on the road. The third matchup went to OC as they defeated San Diego 2-0 in Irvine.
